Maybe it is time to start listing new hot takes that people will be wrong about this coming season?  There are several themes that I hope are now put to bed forever:

1.  Mazzulla is a bottom 5 coach
2.  Celtics will never win a title with Mazzulla the coach
3.  Tatum and Brown can't play together. won't win a title
4.  Tatum doesn't have what it takes to win a championship
5.  The Celtics owners are cheap

Here are a few suggested hot takes that may be in play this season:

1.  Brown is a better player than Tatum, he will be the new #1
2.  Brown should be traded, sell high
3.  Tatum should be traded, Brown is the new leader
4.  Trade Porzingis, he is always injured
5.  Mazzulla is a top 5 coach in the league
6.  The old owners were way better than the new owners
7.  The Celtics should sign Dwight Howard
8.  Kornet is terrible, he shouldn't even be playing

#8 could very likely be true.

If all teams were healthy - including KP - the Celtics [still] would have absolutely pummeled the East. I think the way things worked out with Butler being out completely and Mitchell/Hali missing several games, it did help us. We were lucky because other teams were also at a disadvantage.

But I think we put all that to rest in the Finals. KP still wasn't really healthy at all and we still rolled the team that came out on top of the big bad West. Even on Celtics hating Reddit, people acknowledge how good this Celtics team is. They just didn't want us to win.

Point 2 is just an awful take (obviously not your take). I do wish Tatum either won FMVP or had an awesome Olympics, but I think this is one of those things that won't matter at all in the future. The Celtics won a Title with Tatum as the team's best player and he also won his 2nd Gold medal. People just want to hate on Tatum because they can't hate on the Celtics anymore. Nobody can take that championship away.

#4 is interesting, though. I absolutely love KP and as devastating as it was to me to trade Smart, I was down with it at the time; however, if KP doesn't come back until January and then he goes out with another season ending injury and he is missing for all of the playoffs, that is $30M that might be better spent. With Horford on his last legs, we need a healthy everyday effective Center.

So I think this is more a wait and see item, rather than something we can determine now. If KP comes back fresh and is awesome from his return until the end of the playoffs, we will probably be talking about an extension. He is still relatively young. We as Celtics fans are all hoping and praying for KP's good health moving forward.

I didn't expect JB to be as good as he was during the playoffs.

I didn't expect JB to be as good as he was during the playoffs.

Not enough people give him credit (not saying you or this blog, just the national fanbase) for the fact that, a lot of players could have sort of folded or grown an attitude after how the 2023 ECF ended with the Game 7 dud he had along with the "left hand" and "turnovers" issues.

But Jaylen seemed to actually put his head down and use that as massive motivation and it paid off in the 2024 season and especially the playoffs. He didn't pout and definitely seemed to grow as a leader along with Tatum and they both played off each other. And it culminated for Jaylen with an ECF MVP AND Finals MVP. He really proved a lot of the doubters wrong and was instrumental to #18.

Fair.  If KP can't make it through a playoff run, we probably have to think about dealing him.

I think they're looking more at their performance comparisons in the postseason and Finals run (accolades-speaking), and how Tatum was "subpar" in the Olympics to determine how Brown should be over Tatum in the Olympics lolol

People want to totally undersell Tatum's impact by pumping up the rest of the team. For whatever reason, people really hate Tatum. They don't want him to be in a top 5 conversation - it's odd, really. The common consensus is that the Celtics have been stacked since he entered the league (leaving out the fact that Hayward and Kyrie were injured in 2018 and the team started 18-21 in 2022).

Now with Brown winning FMVP and Tatum being benched for part of the Olympics, this narrative has blown up this summer. I think people really do respect Jrue and White, but saying how good Brown is (despite calling him overrated for years) and how KP is a cheat code (even though he didn't really play in the playoffs) is directly disparaging Tatum, not because they actually love those guys. It makes Tatum look worse by praising the rest of the team.

I bet a lot of the sniping comes from LA and Philly fans, the two teams that passed on Tatum for vastly inferior players.
