Amazing player, amazing GM, and from what I can tell a class act.  I feel like this thread should be in the main Celtics feed as his career is so intertwined with the Celtic's run in the 60's.  He lost all those times simply because the Lakers happened to be the team facing the Celtics in the finals.

Really sad, but kind of appropriate that it happened during the Finals. He's an NBA legend, and came across really well in interviews, seemed like a good guy.
There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'

You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.

I once sat next to Jerry West at an NBA Summer League game (Loyola Marymount)....We talked for the entire first half. Really nice to me, even though I was a Celtics fan.....We joked about that. Rest in Peace to a True Legend.

Absolute competitor. He has left an indelible mark on the NBA.

Saw a tweet that said West checked out early so he wouldn't have to watch another Celtic title putting him on another level of hater. Found that amusing. Good to laugh in times of sadness.  May he rest in peace.

RIP Mr. West. He was my absolute favorite non-Celtic. I always thought he should have been a Celtic.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Was trying to think of HOF players that went on to have careers coaching or front office and the only one I could think of that maybe compares to West is Ozzie Newsome.  He was one of the best TE's in the sports history and then went on to be the head of the Browns/Ravens for 24 years, stabilizing the team when they moved to Baltimore and being the person most responsible for the players on the 2 Ravens Superbowls.  His last draft was the Lamar Jackson draft so he is still leaving his imprint on the Ravens.

Lynch and Elway are still active leading franchises so they could get there (and Elway does have the 1 SB as an executive, while Lunch has the 2 SB losses with the Niners).
