Both Derrick White and Jrue Holiday made the NBA All-Defensive Second Team.

White finished with 15 first place votes, Holiday with 6.

But I was told that White wasn’t an elite defender!

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Very nice - glad to see Jrue on it as many people felt he's lost a step.  It is a little strange seeing so many bigs on the first team, but I guess it makes sense that it goes to the top five regardless of position.

Congrats, White and Jrue!

But I hate the positionless voting. I think for both All NBA and All Defense it should have some sort of semblance of an actual, playable team. That first team would get torched by a perimeter-oriented offense, and the second team couldn’t defend any team with size.

Hate how reactionary the NBA is today with all these rule changes (i.e. Embiid unable to make 1st team), especially given how they’ll impact discussion of all-time discussions given differing criteria and eligibility for awards.

Fully agree. Just move Adebayo and Davis for Caruso and Suggs, such that both teams make sense.

he was on the 2nd Team last year also, still doesn't change my view that he is a step below elite.

I hate that. 4 centers and a wing in the first team. Then the 2nd team has 4 guards and a wing. No bigs. Ugh ...

Bring back positions please!

I like position-less on All-NBA but don't like it on All-Defense. I have no explanation for this.  I'm just strange.

I'd be interested to see the voting on a 2/3 format and if it changed the positioning.

Elite or not, he's seemingly regarded as the third best defensive guard in the NBA (and was actually named on more ballots than Suggs).  Or, to be lawyerly, "Among full-time starters, White received more All-Defense votes than any guard in the NBA".

Agreed. For All-NBA I get it because you want to honor all the best players, but for All-Defense I want to see the best players at each position, not just the best overall. Having 4 guys that mostly play Center on the 1st team just feels so wrong
I'm bitter.

I'd argue that a 1st team vote should be worth more than 2 points if a second team vote is worth 1, so i'd keep Suggs above White. And given that they're both elite defenders, I can't fault anyone for putting Suggs over White
I'm bitter.
