They haven’t needed him. They’ve bought time (extra time now) to give him us much rest and rehab needed.My guess was the finals was always the plan

I think the bigger question to ask is if KP would start right away or come off the bench first?

It’s a little easier to manage minutes at the beginning of the game and second half, so if he has restrictions starting him might be better.
You know if they lose Game 1, the narrative in sports media is going to be "Did KP's return screw up team chemistry?" or something along those lines.
