My guess is that we dump Tillman and Boucher, and don't make any additions of note.

If we move Simons I think it will be in a last minute move that leaves fans underwhelmed.

I would love to see these two packaged with a first for Day'ron Sharpe offer next years if possible.

or

these two and a first for Yve Missi.  Missi gives you some cost control and athletic ability.  He is raw, but one thing I liked when I watched him is how quick of a leaper he is as a player.  You really can't teach that.

Both trades seem to work out on the FAN Pro trade machine.

You send two guys not part of the rotation out for a guy that might have future impact at the cost of a first.

I think the Naji Marshall rumors are false.  There is no way Brad would go after a guy with all the history of the punches/fights as I see it unless it is Gafford and Naji for Simmons.    I still find it really improbable and this trade does not work on FAN PRO.   Too big of a culture risk and we have wings galore.

Usually with Brad it will be a deal, that we have not even conceived.   He operates in secrecy.

I think Minott will be moved as well.  Moving all three lets the Celtics be full players in the buyout market, as well as grants access to the MLE to sign an end-of-bench flyer or two to a minimum deal for more than the end of next season.  Minott and/or Boucher might have the positive trade value to net out Tillman?s presumptive negative trade value.

I don't understand Minott dropping out of the rotation completely.  If we're not going to use him it makes sense to trade him, for sure, but I still like him as an option.

A trade update that any of us could write:

Quote from: The Athletic / NY Times
Simons has created plenty of fans within the organization over his short time with the Celtics. Still, his $27.7 million expiring contract has made him a trade candidate since he arrived in Boston. As much as the Celtics value Simons and the way he has fit in, the reality is that his role would also change if Tatum returns this season. In that scenario, Boston would have less of a need for Simons? scoring. The team is exploring paths to swap Simons and potentially draft capital for a big man, according to league sources.

In any trade for significant salary, the Celtics would be likely to part ways with Anfernee Simons, according to league sources. That wouldn?t be an easy loss for the team to stomach, as he has acclimated himself well in Boston. Based on all indications, the Celtics have appreciated Simons? approach this season.

I think Garza's recent play has clogged what might have been a "lane" for Minott to earn minutes (i.e. the big in small-ball lineups). His recent injury didn't help matters either.

Also Joe's switch from Walsh, to Hugo, to eventually Hauser at the starting spot shows me he wanted a little bit more offensively out of that starting role (something the other three wings aren't able to provide consistently). Add the fact that Walsh and Gonzalez both provide what Minott also provides -- namely bringing a ton of energy to the floor -- and he feels kind of redundant and/or unnecessary currently.

Things change fast, obviously. But that's my read right now.

I also don?t know why he has dropped from the rotation, but it is undeniable he has, and it is not as if minutes are going to become more available when Tatum does come back.  I think he will be easy to move.  Getting rid of all three could let us get KP if he is traded and bought out, or maybe even Nurkic if he is bought out.

I certainly will not be sad if Minott stays.  I like him and wish he played more, but I think it could be most useful if he is traded.

while Hugo, Walsh and Minott are all hustle guys, Minott is able to do that with more size than Hugo or Walsh so he's not completely replaceable by those 2.  I see the 3 of them as able to provide hustle coverage over several spots each: Hugo 1-3, Walsh 2-4 and Minott 3-5.

Fringe moves to get under the tax most likely.

Simon staying would be a head scratcher. Yes, he is fantastic off the bench and provides a needed service. Can't see him wanting to stay with no extension in place. Brad letting him walk this summer for free would be very un-Brad like.

I'm not married to this opinion so I'm happy to be corrected if anybody feels differently, but I don't think Minott is the same caliber of defensive player as Hugo and Walsh.  He doesn't guard penetration the way those two can and he doesn't hold up consistently as a small ball 5 either.  If all three of our hustle wings are going to hit threes the way they have this season, it makes sense to bench the one with less defensive value.

I acknowledge that some defensive metrics love Minott though, so perhaps my observation is wrong.  And I do agree with your conclusion that he's a useful piece to keep around as an option.
