Some sad news, former Celtics player, Jason Collins, says he has Stage 4 brain cancer.

Just awful - so sorry to hear that.

Yeah, I just read this:

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/47266076/jason-collins-stage-4-glioblastoma

I feel for him, and all of the individuals and families dealing with this horrible disease.

That clip was just heart wrenching.  We?ve all probably known someone with glioblastoma - I had two friends die of it.  It?s just devastating.  Seems that he?s handling it about as well as humanly possible.

My wife's father died from this back in 2013.  There were experimental treatments at the time and there are some new ones in the works -- news of that disease tends to draw my attention -- but it's still one of the worst types of cancer to get.  It does sound like he's handling it as well as possible, and trying to look at his treatment as an opportunity to help others in the future.  That's an admirable outlook.

Yeah a distant relative of my friend's passed away from it back in 2019. It's very sad, and unfortunately there's just not much you can do about it but remain hopeful and just live life in the present. Medicine and technology have made a lot of advancements but there's still a lot of work to be done and research ongoing. I hope we can get to a point where we can have solutions to these cancers and other terminal diagnoses but it's not easy.

I feel for Jason Collins and his family.

@taylorcsnow

Jordan Walsh has tied a Celtics record for most career 1st halves with 15+ points and 100.0 FG%.

He has TWO in a FOUR-GAME span:
12/11 @ MIL 18 PTS (7-7 FG)
12/4 @ WAS 15 PTS (6-6 FG)

Paul Pierce is the only other Celtic with two such career efforts in the play-by-play era.

At least after tomorrow the schedule starts to "normalize"

Sorry but this "4 games in two full weeks" is just BS and really ruins the flow of things both as a player and a viewer. Hell, why not just give the teams an extra week off besides the ASB at that point. What a gimmick this Cup is

And btw, it's not gonna solve guys sitting out or load managing. It'll continue

Tatum insight.

https://www.bostonsportsjournal.com/2025/12/17/everything-brad-stevens-had-to-say-about-jayson-tatums-progress-approaching-potential-trades-and-more

Quote
Brad Stevens spoke to the media on Wednesday, answering wide-ranging on Jayson Tatum, this year?s team, trade strategies, and more. Here?s everything he said, with my reaction.

ON JAYSON TATUM POTENTIALLY RETURNING:

?There?s strength thresholds he has to meet. And then after that, several weeks of progressions, right, from the standpoint of scripted against small groups, scripted against bigger groups, scripted in 5-on-5, unscripted random, all the way up through those. But it's a long progression, and it's almost like, once you hit the strength, then you do your thresholds of a progression of play, and then you're also reconditioning to play real minutes, whatever that looks like. He?s obviously made great strides. Right now, we're still focused on the full-strength game.?

FOLLOW UP: WHERE IS HE IN HIS RECOVERY:

?We?re not putting a timeline on it, as we haven't the whole time. I mean, I think one of the things that everybody can see that we didn't apply for a DPE (disabled player exception) this year, which was a conscious decision for a lot of reasons. But the reality is, he's not going to be back until he's 110 percent healthy, and he feels good about it, and that's a big part of it, right? Obviously, he's itching to play. Obviously, he hates watching. But he's also very cognizant of the need to meet every threshold and why there are those things that are put in place. We've had a lot of great talks about it. One of the things that we love about this whole group, and I think the guys that have been here the longest lead the charge, is they love the play.?

Do the quotes from yesterday make it seem less likely Tatum returns this season? More likely? No difference?

NBA Courtside: He told me he?s coming back this season. @ChrisBHaynes on Jayson Tatum chances to play this season.

Certainly has felt trending this way.

So, as it's becoming more real - does anyone see this team as an EC contender?  A championship contender...
with JT at 95% by playoff time?
With JT at 95% and a new Center -  Zubac?  Claxton?  Turner?   Someone else?
With JT, new center, and.... ?

If we're truly thinking ECF (and maybe beyond) it has to be Tatum and another center. I think with just Tatum coming back to this team it's still a threat to make a bit of a run but some of the teams like the Knicks and Pistons are still more loaded especially with size. We absolutely need another big man in the group.

If it's just Tatum coming back, I think the C's would be a second-round exit.

If we have Tatum and an upgraded Center then I think they'd be an ECF exit.

But ofc that's assuming the 3's are falling becuz if they're clanking all night long and no adjustments then that'll be another second round exit, like last year.
