[Scotto] The Boston Celtics have waived Jalen Bridges, Kendall Brown, and Wendell Moore, league sources told @hoopshype. Ron Harper Jr. filled Boston's vacant two-way spot following the departure of RJ Luis.

Probably gets more respect from his peers than his own fans a lot of the time.

It'll be interesting to look back on his career 10-15 years from now in terms of what his legacy will be.  Champion, Finals MVP, that stuff is obvious.  But NBA discourse has gravitated more and more towards these one-stop 'metrics' that attempt to encapsulate a player's value within a single number, and those things have never loved JB for various reasons - some of which aren't his fault.  I tend to think people who watch games will look back on him more positively than those who get most of their basketball knowledge by popping up a tab on Basketball Reference and scrolling down to VORP or whatever their pet stat of choice is.

It'll be interesting to see how his career plays out when he's back home in ATL.

I don't have any quarrel with this.  Glad for him to be getting a chance, but my expectations are not that high for him having any kind of actual impact on the team.  Interesting (to me at least) is that he had the worst +/- on the team in the preseason, -23 total in 32 minutes over 3 games.  Otherwise, his box score numbers looked fine, at least relative to the other 2-way candidates.

We have 14 on the roster, with Tatum injured, so starting the season with only 13 that can dress.  To me, that means there should be at least 1 2-way guy dressing for the games every night.  So Walsh, Scheierman, Shulga, and Harper plus Amari Williams, in some combination, is the end of the bench.  Walsh and Scheierman had pretty unimpressive preseasons so maybe Harper gets some run.

John Karalis: Joe Mazzulla says Jaylen Brown "was able to do everything but the live stuff" in practice today. He says Jaylen is day-to-day, so no indication yet if he'll be ready for opening night.

It's a bit weird to me that over the years there've been guys like Lonnie Walker + Yabusele (or other similar, experienced guys) that are still unsigned but the team just doesn't want them and instead go after random guys. I mean sure, they won't "significantly" impact a team but sometimes those guys can still offer something and at least help you in a few games down the stretch or in the postseason than the likes of JD Davison, these recent signings, etc.

I mean the Knicks and Pacers take advantage of these kinds of guys and they help their depth, sometimes even helping in a playoff game or two. Hell, even the C's did sort of the same with Oshae Brissett and Tillman in 2024 and those guys did help in a few postseason games and could hold their own unlike these other end of bench guys.

And truth be told. I do like Hugo, but I'm still not sure if guys like Baylor or even Walsh (now his third year) can contribute much right now or this season. Davison was just around but never felt like he had a chance, though they kept him for a while.

If there's an opportunity to add an experienced guy in the buyout market this season, then some of these end of bench guys should NOT be the reason to not acquire them

and if it is, so what? at this point i trust stevens decision-making on finding marginal players who can develop or contribute, even if it takes time.

Yes.  Most / all teams do similar things.
