If you told me my only objective was to tank and my only restrictions wrt my roster were that I had to roster and play Pritchard, White, Brown and Hauser I think our current roster is basically the gold standard.
Agreed

There is still a long way to go in the offseason. Remember, Brad didn?t pull off in getting Holiday until late in the Summer. Maybe we will do something like trading Houser and Niang and picks for a legit starting caliber big, with Garza and Bayler backfilling Houser?s current role. Maybe there is still a chance Horford comes back too. If at least one of those things happen I will feel better about things.

Horford is the game changer.

Why in the world did we let Kornet leave for $10M per year ?
Who are we getting any better for his role for that price ?
Unless Brad and ownership just want to clean house and tank ??
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

Because there are significant long-term consequences (penalized draft picks, amongst others) for us to remain above the second apron, and we were currently only $4.5 million below it.  It is possible they are aiming for an even lower salary than below the second apron, but the second apron was an effective cap, and they could not spend on Kornet if it would take them back over.

Who is worse - Milwaukee or Boston?

G: Ryan Rollins, Kevin Porter Jr
G: Gary Trent Jr, AJ Green
F: Kyle Kuzma, Pat Connaughton
F: Bobby Portis, Taureen Prince
C: Giannis, Jericho Sims

G: A Simons, P Pritchard
G: D White, B Scheierman
F: Hauser, Jordan Walsh, H Gonzales
F: Jaylen, G Niang
C: Queta, Luka Garza

Hmmm ... I thought that would be closer. Milwaukee look comfortably ahead. More serviceable depth.

----------

MIL = 2 3rd stringers = Ryan Rollins, Jericho Sims

BOS = 4 3rd stringers = Scheierman, J Walsh / H Gonzales, Queta, Luka Garza

Milwaukee feel like a 20 win team without Giannis. With Giannis, a .500 team.

Giannis has played 61-63 games 3 times in last 6 years. 67 games 2 times in last 6 years. Only over 70 games 1 year with 73 games. If Giannis misses any lenghtily period of time with injury, this Bucks team will likely miss the playoffs (even play-in).

The CBA has destroyed the NBA.  They're going to have to figure out working around the supermax deals.  Example, what if Tatum and Brown only signed for (woe is me) 30M per year rather than these ridiculous deals.  That's still a 5yr/150M dollar deal and it reduces the C's payroll by 40M per year.  It penalizes teams who have traded well and drafted even better.  Can't wait to see what happens to OKC in the future.

Not with this roster they aren't. They will shoot more 3s than they ever have just to stay in games. Defense will be painful to watch. No front court whatsoever.

And the bench might be the worst we have seen in a long time. 32 wins seems to be the sweet spot.

It's hard to see an NBA team being successful with Niang, Tillman and Garza as their bigs.

Our guards and small forwards are easily playoff caliber.  But, with nobody to defend or rebound, I'm not sure how we win 50% of our games.

Brad's not done, but this tear down is brutal.

Have to admit it is worse than I expected. I knew they would lose guys but to get nothing in return is tough. Simons is just a gunner who is lost on defense. Niang is awful. Garza isn't NBA material.

Bigs and the bench might be the worst in the league.

I hope there is a plan for 2026.

They should have just paid the tax.

This could have been a 50 win team without Tatum. With Tatum due to return in time for the playoffs if all goes well. Adding Tatum to a 50 win team gives you a real shot at winning the East. Especially given how weak the top of the East is.

Well, it makes it prohibitively expensive to keep a championship-calibre team together, which is what the primary architects of the latest CBA - the owners - wanted.

And yet when kornet came in everyone was like who?  I?ll give the Celtics credit for being able to develop their players to the point that they are serviceable and attractive to other teams.  Not saying any of the current centers will do that but no one knows.  No one knew how good Rob and Kornet would be and they improved.  I think playing time and system fit are gonna be key.  That has a lot to do with Joe.  I?m hoping these moves are a subtle attempt by brad to force Joe to slow the 3 ball down some and get back to more spacing and looking for open shots.

Still time to fill the team but to me they were going to always take a hit on talent when losing KP and Holiday. The deciding point was always going to be on Horford and Kornet. It seems at this point it is unlikely they bring either back as I think Horford will go elsewhere. I think their main goal now will be to get below the tax entirely. That will require gutting the roster more. And then this feels like a great year for Brown to rest his knee and do a tank that way. You then come back the following year with Tatum, Brown, White and ideally a solid rookie with potential. Then you try to go for it. It is tough to see how this team is in the playoffs next year and I would prefer a tanking route by still keeping White and Brown. Will be a year to look at the development of some young guys so hopefully there will be some fun there. Least it will be a lot less stressful next year!
