Speaking on the latest episode of the “Mind The Game” podcast alongside JJ Redick, James spoke highly of Mazzulla’s coaching style — especially with his approach with fouls at the end of Boston’s eventual Game 1 win over Indiana last month.

Redick noted that Mazzulla elected to foul while up six points at the end of that game against the Pacers —  a forward-thinking move to ensure that the score would remain a two-possession difference.

James was impressed with Mazzulla’s ability to read such a scenario potentially playing out in the midst of a hectic end to a high-stakes playoff game.

“This Joe Mazzula guy is a [expletive] genius,” James said, adding: “The more and more I talk I want to talk to you, the more and more I like this Joe guy.”

“You got to think outside the box a little,” Redick responded.

“Absolutely,” James responded. “And I see why he sits over there and he says absolutely nothing. And he’s calm as [expletive]. He only gets a little like — when he knows they’re not playing the right way offensively.

It’s never defensively. It’s never because of the three-point attempts. It’s never ever if a team makes a run. He’s calm. It’s only when they don’t play the game the right way does he gets a little angry.”

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Maybe we can trade Joe to the Lakers if the Hurley thing falls through.  Win-win.

9 of 17 ESPN “experts” select Dallas to beat Boston in 6 or 7.

I simply don’t understand how reactionary NBA media is. Apparently not only are we overlooking the Celtics’ historical dominance all season and postseason long, but we’re also apparently overlooking how the Celtics have dominated the Mavs matchup over the past two years going undefeated, even after Kyrie’s addition and their deadline additions.

Just amazing. Hope we sweep or gentleman’s sweep and then just rub it all over everyone’s faces, especially in the documentary.

Playoffs are different. Dallas team is different after their midseason trades as they had time to gel. We had the easy stick beating injured teams for our run. But in the regular season, we might've gotten away with beating some injured teams here and there like a Giannis-less Bucks for example

Overall the media seems split pretty much down the middle, with almost everyone predicting that the series will go six or seven games. I guess I can't be too upset by people who see this as a tossup. Dallas has beaten some good teams on its way to the finals, and they have the best player.

Boston might as well not show up then.

Seemed like most that picked the Celtics have had some ties with Boston in the past on a quick skim through the list. Surprised Ramona picked the Celtics for anything though lol.

Nick Wright provides zero to this world. I don't even think his family likes him. He could disappear tomorrow and no one would care.

Add Udonis Haslem (no surprise as he has slandered Bill Russell) and Stephen A Smith taking Mavs in 6. The host that was married to Jalen Rose picked Boston.

The funny thing about this is the "experts" I generally find actually insightful and knowledgeable generally picked the Celtics, while the others picked the Mavs.

Well it’s a good thing these predictions are meaningless.  I don’t mind at all that the media predictions are pretty much split.  Dallas has had a great run through the West and they deserve to be thought of as a good opponent for the Celtics.  Hope the Cs get off to good start. Losing tonight will be hard to take and will make Game 2 more important than it needs to be.
