Nets say Ben Simmons is out for the remainder of the season while he consults with specialists and explores treatment options for the nerve impingement in his lower back.

It won't matter. After next year when his contract ends, he'll be done playing basketball. I consider him retired anyways.

Big blow to an already mediocre Wolves offense.

I think this helps OKC more than anyone. They struggle with size terribly and would’ve been at a big disadvantage there in the playoffs. Also makes it more likely that they can pick up the #1 seed and avoid Denver until the conference finals.

Yeah the West really will come down to seedings/matchups. Like if the Lakers play the Thunder first round, I would pick the Lakers. OKC better hope LAL isn't their first round opponent. But if not and they can avoid Denver until the WCF, I like their chances of reaching the WCF now.

I just don't trust the Clippers. Like in theory they should be the best in the West but can they stay healthy? And with PG13 + Harden in particular those two choke a lot, idk if Kawhi can save them on his own.

West looks more like Denver's every day.

-Thunder too young and not ready
-No one trust the Clippers
-Suns are up and down
-Dallas has spit the bit
-Wolves lose a key player

Going to be crazy if we get the Suns-Denver round one

Injuries really starting to have an impact on the races and potential playoff matchups. Brunson, Randle, Embid, Towns, Mitchell all out for long stretches here. Even Booker is out for a bit, but should be back in not too long. Hoping for no more injuries.

Lakers will gentleman sweep the Thunder in the first round. Then they draw the Clippers or Pelicans who the Lakers had no issue with lol. Sounds like another magical run for them again.

Celtics/Lakers Finals??? 😂

I'd be stunned if the Lakers made the WCF. There certainly exists a path with OKC then the Pelicans. But again, really depends on how seedings shape out. Of course with our luck it could go LAL's way. I still feel very confident the Clippers can beat the Lakers in a series. Not the Thunder or Pelicans.

I think people are really discounting though that Denver could very well be the 1 seed. Only 1.5 back. If the Lakers are the 8 seed in that scenario they are getting demolished again by the Nuggets

I agree that Denver would beat the lakers in a series but I wouldn't say they demolished them last year.  Yes it was a sweep but those games were close if I recall.

But yes.  If the lakers advance any it will be due to favorable matchups or injuries.  They're not getting past a Nuggets team at full health (or even mostly healthy).

Lakers are much much more likely to not make the actual playoffs than to win a series. You can get them to just make the playoffs at even money. Their hype in this board amazes me every year.

Wasn’t that the case last year as well and then they made it to the WCF. I don’t think they are contenders,  but I’d be surprised if they didn’t make the playoffs.

Lakers will make the play-in but their remaining schedule is not easy.  8th most difficult. I wouldn't be surprised if PHX gets leapfrogged but it'll more likely come from DAL or GSW than the Lakers.  6 seed might end up being a battle btw SAC, DAL, & GSW when all is said & done.

As it stands now, they’d play at Golden State in the 9-10 game, and then if they win they’d play at either SAC or Dallas.  That is not the path they want, especially not when they’re 12-19 on the road this year.

No that was not even remotely close to the case last year. The lakers were the 7 seed last year meaning they had to lose 2 games in a row to miss the playoffs. Even easier, last year featured teams that had won 40 and 42 games as the 9 and 10 seeds. So if the lakers lost the first game they were playing a thoroughly average team at home. This year the 10th seed lakers are 4 games above .500. They have a chance to get into 7 or 8 still. But even then they would be playing a team like Dallas, Sacramento or golden state, possibly on the road. That is worlds away from last year. And the worst case scenario which is very much in play is they have to win on the road against a good team like golden state or Dallas just to have the chance to make the second game to win to make the playoffs. Last nights loss was pretty devastating for them at home. They can still overcome it but the lakers poo don’t stink or this is like last year takes at this point are pretty hilarious
