Lakers probably make the play in game…James tenure in LA has been a bust in my opinion, only reason they won was shortened Covid season..he quit on them first year & blame everyone
the Lakers had the best record in the West when covid stopped the season and Bradley didn't come back when the season resumed (he had started 44 of his 49 games).  Acting like they only won because of covid just isn't a take borne in reality.

But half the Western conference teams were facing injuries/out with Covid except for the Lakers that run. They could only win in the bubble...and unfortunately, they get counted towards the banner count, tying the Celtics for franchise most titles.
That just isn't true. At the time the season stopped Kawhi was healthy (so was George). Jokic and Murray were healthy. Harden was healthy (so was Westbrook). SGA and Paul were healthy.  Mitchell and Gobert were healthy. Luka and Zinger were healthy (though Zinger got hurt in the playoffs and missed the last 3 games - big shock there). Lillard was healthy.  That is the other 7 teams that made the playoffs.  The stars were all healthy at the time the season stopped and basically through the entire playoffs.

That was actually one of the healthier seasons both during the regular season and in the bubble.  And the Lakers marched through everyone.  They were clearly the best team in the sport that season.

Seems needless to me.  Also, good luck with day 2 TV ratings.

Yeah, what's the point?

The only way I want a longer televised draft if it's in conjunction with a true minor league system that expands the number of rounds of draftees.  But, until every team has its own independent affiliate, that won't happen.

While absurd, this would be good for the Celtics and their recent  acquisition of several potential early 2nd round picks.  Having a gap between day 1 and 2 will likely make early 2nd rounders more valuable because there’s more time to negotiate.

Really feels like nba is feeling itself a little too much right now. I have a lot of basketball loving friends, nobody has even mentioned the in play tourney besides asking what it is. I’m obviously pretty die hard and I wouldn’t watch a second round unless I had literally nothing going on.

My first thought was this was a terrible attempt at a ratings grab too, but it sounds like this is more from the ownership/exec side, as they want more time to make picks.  Shams follow up tweet:

The concept has been increasingly discussed in recent meetings as team executives believe they could better utilize more time for both first and second rounds.

That actually makes some sense I think.  But what could they reasonably change? If they switch the first round to 10 minutes between picks, that's a 5 hour 1st round draft.  7pm-midnight?  I guess I might have that on in the background.  Then maybe a shorter 5 minute per pick 2nd round (up from the current 2 minutes)?  Fills up 2 1/2 hours of obscure programming on NBATV or ESPN2 or something I suppose.  Probably tough to fill the actual show though, a lot more player interviews, highlight packages, family featurettes?

All for nothing though if teams still wait for the last minute to make deals.  And how much time do teams really need to decide if they want to trade the 38th pick and a future 2nd for the 34th pick?  Are there really major 2nd round deals not happening because teams are too rushed to make a decision? Do teams need to overanalyze the impact of Jordan Walsh on their franchise?

What I really want is for them to eliminate the 5 minute timer for the first pick.  That has always been ridiculous.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

It seems like the second round is much more important than it used to be and it's no longer an afterthought. You see it not just in the talent that comes from it, but also the increasing use of 2nd round picks as actual capital in trades. I don't really care about moving it to day 2 because you don't have to watch if you're not a hardcore fan, but I do hope that this doesn't mean they add even more time between picks in the first round and run all these biographical segements. Interviews are fine, as is actual analysis of the picks. However, I don't really want more cliched rags to riches-type stories, or unwarranted hype for players that don't deserve it.

I think they should just go with a true minor league and add a 3rd round. A true minor league would also make it easier to eliminate the age limit.

Celtics looking like the Miami Dolphins of the NBA. Blowing out weak teams and having trouble winning against playoff caliber teams.

Both teams have elite talent at important positions, but no depth. High scoring offense against teams they can easily beat, that struggle against tougher competition. Defense that is sometimes good but more often mediocre. Tatum is putting up decent numbers just like Tua. And just like Tua he’s underperforming and inconsistent when it matters.

Thankfully the classic Celtics colors and uniform design hasn’t been updated to pistachio green or worse.

Clippers lost again tonight. Pretty amazing that they were only able to score 93 points considering they are starting Kawhi, George, Westbrook, and Harden.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

The win is extra impressive when you consider it came on the same day the lakers literally sent a memo to the nba asking for Lebron to get more free throws. This sounds like I am making a joke but I am not. 2023 nba
