I'd say no, but I was in the camp that the trade really did not make them that much better to begin with.

Probably not. Lillard is a better player but by how much? He can certainly score a ton, but his defense is awful, and frankly I thought Holiday was a very underrated guy for them. Giannis isn't kidding when he says Holiday was a big reason they won in 2021, him and Middleton were huge when Giannis was out in the ECF, and Holiday + Lopez was lowkey clutch for them last year while Giannis was out.

MIL has probably accepted they can't win with defense and will try to outscore opponents now

I'm guessing MIL thought if Holiday was going to go somewhere else, it'd be to Clippers or Sixers. They probably didn't expect Heat or Celtics, and it happened with the Celtics

I think so.  They're trying to appease Giannis, and getting him another superstar to play with was the best way to show that they're not going to stay complacent.

The Bucks knew there was a risk.  There’s a long-form story on ESPN about how the Bucks said they’d pull the offer to Portland if it leaked over the summer, which means that Portland couldn’t find a third team for Jrue until after the Lillard trade, as opposed to part of it.  And they probably also knew the Celtics were asking about Lillard, which means it would have been natural for them to turn around and pursue Holiday.

I imagine Jrue going to Boston was the Bucks worst-case scenario, but I also think that they’d have done the deal anyway, because their goal was to get Lillard.

Probably.

But now they're praying that they don't get bounced by Boston in the playoffs.

I think the Bucks felt Boston would end up with Dame if they did not get him. They also had to know they would get Holiday if they let him go in a trade.

Came here to say exactly that.

I actually think they were nervous he would go to Toronto so made a desperation move. I think the Toronto talk was real solely because Dame's 'rap' career and influence Drake would have towards it.

I'm not sure if Boston was ever in the Dame sweepstakes, but that poses a interesting second question. Does a trade similar to our holiday package get us Dame instead? Maybe if we threw in another pick? If it does what would have been the better trade for us? Dame or Jrue?

the money is different, White or Horford + Prtichard were needed
