The comments are a very good window into Wenyen as a player.

Makes you wonder why the Lakers let him go.
LA acquired Wood & Hayes. Makes Gabriel a bit redundant

i guess bc they signed christian wood?

but this guy may be better, not talent wise, but filling a role-wise

Agreed. Gabriel is primarily a defender. Wood is a one way offensive player.

I guess, and they already had Vanderbilt and Hachimura.

Guards:   Russell, Reeves, Vincent
Wings:    LeBron, Reddish, Prince
PFs:        Hachimura, Vanderbilt
Center:   Davis, Wood, Hayes

Still seems like he would have been a good candidate to keep for the 14th or 15 spot on the roster.  Maybe it was Gabriel who wanted a different opportunity.  It would make sense.  The Celtics should offer more chance to play.  In the best case scenario, he could end up the 3rd big behind Porzingis and Horford.  Right now that is Kornet or maybe Brissett.  So the opportunity is there for him.

LAL choose Jaxson Hayes over Wenyen Gabriel. They thought J Hayes had more potential given his superior size around the basket on defense.

I don't think that choice will pan out. Jaxson Hayes has been terrible in New Orleans and is more likely to be a downgrade over Wenyen Gabriel.

That said, they were in part willing to make that gamble because W Gabriel himself is such a limited player so missing out on him does not matter much.
