I have watched the Celtics a long time and have been through a lot of off seasons. I really never expect much to happen. Seems most rumors are that nothing more will happen, I find that to be weird.
Usually, there are all kinds of rumors of things, then nothing ever happens.
This year some how seems different. Reports saying, there is No interest in getting involved in the Lillard situation. Okay, then why leak that?? Just stay quiet, It Just feels weird to me.
Then, they drag out giving Jaylen Brown his super Max, again this seems a little weird.
Then, we have accumulated like 50 2nd round picks, the GS 1st. We then let GW leave for more 2nd round picks. I know they are not interested in a bunch of young players?
I guess it's probably nothing, but man does it feel like something.
I don't know, I kind of want to see what JT,JB and KP can do together.
I guess time will tell.

Obviously Brad made a couple of big moves already so it's not like most off-seasons.

I keep saying I think he's done except to sign a vet like Blake.

Everyone is feeling out the new CBA

I hope they talk Brown into taking less so we can sign Oubre or Wood as they would add significant pop to our bench.

Feels like they are preparing for the year both Brown and Tatum are on super-maxes.   I imagine they are ready to go over the 2nd apron one or two seasons when that first hits, but not before.

The Celtics (like some other teams) were not prepared for the change in the rules.

Brown taking less in his extension has zero impact on anyone we sign this year.  We have a $5 million exception to use to sign a free agent, and if we use that exception, our salary is capped.  We can create about $4.8 million of space for that $5 million by dumping Champagnie and Kornet, so in essence we have $4.8 million.  Brown’s extension kicks in next year — we can’t touch his salary this year.

Brown taking less next year might have some small impact on the signings we could make next year, but with over $100 million committed to four other players, whether Brown makes $40 or $50 million, we’ll still be over the cap and have limited avenues for free agent signings, same as this year.  There might be a different trade we could make, but that’s about it.

still alot of guys out there who haven't been signed yet. So there are still alot of shoes to drop in free agency.

Yep, my guess is they go over the second apron when Tatum’s extension kicks in, which is also the last year of KP’s deal.  If they win a title in the next three seasons, they probably consider keeping things together and eating the penalty, but if not, I foresee a wholesale rebuilding.

in a bubble, paying $13.5 million for your 4th big who may play 15minutes a night and pushing you into the 2nd apron doesn't make much sense. And you look at our rotation and it isn't as bad as people on this board make it out to be.

Problem is the health history and age of our top rotation guys.

Horford is old and needs rest so he isnt shot for the playoffs. and Rob williams/Porzingis are penciled in to miss 20-40 games a season and need to be managed as well. and your top scoring option off the bench in Brogdon is an injury risk as well.

So, we need depth to at least get us through the regular season.

Feels about right for Brad. Signing marginal NBA players to play key roles off the bench. Basically the same as last season.

Don't think anything else is coming down the line to be honest with you. Team looks to be set other than a few 2 way deals at the end of the bench. Brissett was the big fish for Brad in free agency.

Guards: Brogdan, White, PP, Banton
Wings: Tatum Brown, Hauser,
Wings/forward: Brissett, Walsh
Bigs: Al, KP, Rob and Kornet

That leaves two spots open and probably one gets filled (with a 2 way guy like Champaigne) while the other does not.

the more I think about it though, health aside our rotation is set. that is unless you believe PP/Hauser are not NBA rotation players. I personally think they are and can contribute. I mean are they any different than say Caleb martin/Struss talent wise?

Assuming heathly...I think regular season has a steady rotation of these players in some order

Tatum
Brown
White
KP
Rob
Brogdan
Al
Hauser
Brissett
PP

Walsh, Banton and Kornet play in garbage time.

I added him. I am still wondering if he plays as the season starts tho with his injury. But if healthy he is a main piece.

Really like their 1-8 players. I do think Brissett can do the same things Grant did IF his shot from 3 is decent. He will hustle, rebound and defend. Same with Walsh. I would love to see the rookie get some minutes because he is uber athletic and works hard. Those two guys should be able to tag team and do well in everything but scoring departments.

Leaves PP and Hauser...hopefully Joe trusts them. Do not feel Kornet nor Banton bring anything to the party.

  • Let's Go Celtics!
We've already made the "big" move - trading for/extending Kristaps. If anyone thinks anything else major will happen, you're going to be disappointment. Teams don't usually make a bunch of roster resetting moves unless they're blowing it up.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
