I said this about Bol Bol in another thread

I think Bol Bol is a forward rather than a center. A PF. Too thin to play the five spot. So I don't think he would effect Kornet. More likely someone like Brisset or Banton as 3rd string PF.

I don't think he is much good as a player. A tweener player. At his height and mobility he needs to be a center but he doesn't have the size / bulk for it. So he plays PF. He is still stuck between two positions and struggles to defend players at either spot. Not really skilled enough for the PF position in terms of outside shooting, handles, passing.

I don't think he is worth pursuing for the Celtics.

The Magic chose to keep Goga Bitadze over Bol Bol, which says enough to me.

I don't rate Bol Bol super highly myself (bench forward type). But, how much faith do you have in Orlando's asset evaluation?

I like Goga. Why couldn't they keep both? I had Bol Bol penned as their main backup PF heading into next season since J Isaac is still an injury question mark.

G: Markelle Fultz, Cole Anthony, J Suggs
G: Gary Harris, Anthony Black
F: Franz Wagner, Jett Howard, Joe Ingles, C Okeke
F: Banchero, Bol Bol, J Isaac
C: W Carter Jr, Mo Wagner, G Bitadze

Who am I missing out on? That is only 14 players.

Who is forcing Bol Bol out?

Edit: Ah, Joe Ingles. 15 players. Who else?

I would say it’s gotten better in recent years. Drafting correctly with Banchero and Wagner. Trading for WCJ and Fultz. They have a nice little core going on over there, with Banchero having superstar potential where they could have easily drafted Smith or Chet.

Enough to trust that if they’re the third team to move off from Bol Bol, there’s a reason.

That's fair (although I think they overpaid Mo). I don't quite know what to make of Bol.

Quote
He clearly shined in his short stint to end the season, averaging 5.8 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game in 15.0 minutes per game. That is a double-double pace.

In that much-needed opportunity for the former first-round pick, Bitadze showed a willingness to set good screens and work around the basket offensively. But more than that for this Magic team, he had a willingness to defend the paint and became a strong option for the Magic.

Opponents shot 52.5 percent at the rim against Bitadze in his time with the Magic according to data from Second Spectrum. That mark was only bettered by Jonathan Isaac. The Magic had a 104.8 defensive rating with Bitadze on the floor with a +2.9 net rating.

Further, opponents shot 9.60 percentage points worse at the rim than expected against Bitadze for the entire season, according to Basketball-Index. He ranked in the 99th percentile in the league with 1.08 rim points saved per 75 possessions.

That should give some kind of idea of his defensive impact.

I am fine with signing Bol but I would have pretty low expectations.  As I rank the bench bigs from last season, I have them as:

Grant
Griffin
Kornet
Kabengele

I am not sure that Bol is even ahead of Kornet, but maybe.  I do not see him as a replacement for Grant.  So I guess I would be fine with Bol as a vet min, perhaps taking Champagnie's roster slot.  Things at the end of the bench are crowded with Davison being offered a QO and Banton getting a guaranteed contract.  I am still expecting Grant on the roster.  Maybe Walsh takes a 2-way and we cut Champagnie, slots 11-15 could look like this:

Davison    (QO extended, assume he can't be 2-way)
Banton     (2 year Guaranteed)
Brissett    (2 year Guaranteed)
Bol Bol
Kornet     (Non-Guaranteed)

Maybe Bol would be fine in that role, I have my doubts.

If you want to know more about a player, just go to their team or former team's reddit. Most people remember the hot start last season, but Bol was pretty awful afterwards.

Skimming the thread, the consensus is he was a horrible defensive player and the highlight reel plays obscured how poor he was at everything else.

Every fan base wants him, yet every team he's been on has gotten rid of him. Should tell you all you need to know.
