I believe those familiar with me here know that I have always been a huge fan of Danny Ainge. Overall, I thought he did a great job as the Celtics GM during his time. When he left and joined the Jazz, I had serious concerns about the future of the franchise. Particularly, after the Celtics hired Brad Stevens as his replacement. To be honest, I felt the ownership was being frugal. I didn't think the ownership group would pay him without receiving anything in return, so they decided to move him into the GM role. That seemed to be the plan.

However, I must admit that I was proven wrong. Brad Stevens knows what he's doing, or he has competent people, like Mike Zarren, supporting him. I wasn't a fan of the Derek White trade and thought giving up the 2028 first-round pick swap (#1 protected) was a major mistake. Perhaps Danny Ainge conditioned me to value draft picks more than necessary. Maybe Brad Stevens doesn't prioritize them as much? Either way, I now have a better perspective on how to assess first-round draft picks. That's the fundamental difference between their approaches: Danny Ainge valued first-round picks more, while Brad Stevens seems to have a different stance. He may have swung too far in declaring his indifference toward first-round picks compared to Ainge.

Now, let me come to my main point: Brad Stevens has done an outstanding job. He has shown great courage when it mattered, particularly in the Marcus Smart trade. Additionally, as mentioned by another commenter, Radiohead (TP), I believe he will offer Jaylen Brown a contract less than the max but still more than any other team can offer him. If Brown becomes discontented, Stevens will likely trade him for a valuable return.

In conclusion, I am a strong supporter of Brad Stevens, and I believe the organization is heading in the right direction. I have confidence that with Stevens leading the way, we will win a championship in the near future.

I always believed Brad would fit better as a GM than he was as a coach due to his analytical approach. But I never thought he would have the balls to move a core piece of the team and swing for the fences. I can see this being reasonable if the team is rebuilding, but not on a team that just lost game 7 in the conference finals.

Can he outdo Danny during his tenure here? We'll see. Danny have a ring to his feat.

Both are great in different ways.

I think Ainge is who you want for a rebuild. How he changed Boston from the Walker days to KG was remarkable. He knows how to stockpile assets and only cash them in when the right player presents itself. It’s almost laughable how well he’s doing in Utah so quickly.

Brad knows talent. He knows how to find guys like White and isn’t afraid to cash in to make the team better. He took over a team that was in the ECF what, 3 of the previous 5 seasons? He made them favorites for the majority of the last two playoff runs.

I’m looking forward to see what direction Brad takes this team next season and beyond.

PBS is doing a great job. Except with the head coach.

Yeah, overall I agree.

I'd also like him to bring in more proven guys to fill out the bench.  Having some developmental players on the back end is fine, but you shouldn't waste roster spots on guys like Kornet, Vonleh, Jackson.  This year we may have Davidson and Walsh on the team.  I'd like to see the top-12 guys be players who have NBA experience and skill.

Brad has done well with the roster for the most part. Still feel that Kornet and the trash heap on the bench last season could have been improved. Too many wasted spots and not enough NBA players to fill out the roster.

I would have let Joe go and gone after Nick Nurse but that is just me.

His FAs choices haven't been the best and he hasn't had a good draft. He has also had a questionable coaching hire twice now. As far as trades and media relations BS is pretty good. He is a solid guy to follow up DA. Time will tell if he was the right choice by Wyc.

Yeah the bench is a concern, as is the coaching staff (essentially the way the 'mutiny' was handled, I can't get myself too worked up about Mazza's coaching). And the Smart Trade... I don't like it, because it feels like a Tony Allen reprise, but I can see why he did it.

Ime wasn’t a bad hire, that was not foreseeable. What FAs have been poor?

You consider Ime's hiring very questionable?  Is that because he was a rookie coach, or because of the workplace affair with a subordinate?

In fairness to Brad, I've liked a lot of his signings in free agency.  Schroder, Kanter/Freedom, Hauser, Gallo.  Not all of them have worked out, but I liked the thought process.  But, the dumpster diving last year stunk.

It was the rookie coach and then how things turned out confirmed it wasn't the best hire. I'm pretty sure he will flame out in Houston.

And even when the free agents didn't work out, it's not like we're stuck with a bad contract.

Ehh, but context is important. There also weren’t any other more established and experienced coaches on the market either. I think the Ime hire was a slam dunk and he was well on his way to becoming a top coach in the NBA here and was the perfect personality for these guys. Ime’s actions were his own and not Brad’s fault.

Brad’s big mistake was not surrounding Joe with more help. Picking Joe at that point in the preseason is understandable given the context, but failing to best support him with a competent staff and essentially punting this year was a major failing. I firmly believe that not better surrounding Joe with assistant coaching talent was a big reason we popped the bed and underperformed most of the year and playoffs.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

I guess the question here is about the timeline - what competent staff member is really available to replace, say, Stoudemire in late March?
