Step 1:  Trade Pritchard + Kornet + Champagnie + #2 for Larry Nance Jr.

Step 2:  Sign Kyle Lowry with vet minimum

Step 3:  Sign Thomas Bryant or Bismack Biyombo with vet minimum

Step 4:  Sign Will Barton with vet minimum

Step 5:  Sign JaMychal Green with vet minimum

Step 6:  Call up J.D. Davidson

Step 7:  Sign Jordan Walsh

Timelord / Horford / Bryant
KP / Nance / Green
Tatum / Hauser / Walsh
Brown / Brogdon / Barton
White / Lowry / Davidson

We're above the second apron, but only slightly so.  I expect most of the vet minimum guys to head to Phoenix or somewhere other than Boston, but I can dream about going 13 to 15 deep.

I kind of expect #6 + #7.

I'd be happy with even one of the first five.

If I'm spending Wyc's money, why not shoot for the sky and get Bruce Brown on a hometown deal somehow.  He's got his ring, and I'd rather have him than GWill, who for some reason everyone says is a Big, but at 6'6", he's shorter than JB who's a Wing.  GWill don't play like no big!

The most we can offer him is $5 million, which is significantly less than Denver or other teams can offer.

An alternative that keeps us below the second apron:

Step 1:  Waive Kornet + Champagnie

Step 2:  Sign Josh Richardson to the MLE

Step 3:  Sign Thomas Bryant or Bismack Biyombo with vet minimum

Step 4:  Sign JaMychal Green with vet minimum

Step 5:  Call up J.D. Davidson

Step 6:  Sign Jordan Walsh

Timelord / Horford / Bryant
KP / Green
Tatum / Hauser / Walsh
Brown / Richardson
White / Brogdon / Pritchard / Davidson

It's not really sexy, but it's probably more realistic than the above, and it meets our presumed financial goals.

I like Biyombo as 3rd string center. Good defender and rebounder. Dependable. Ready when needed.

No interest in T Bryant. Far more skilled offensively but no defensive game. Not trustworthy in big games. A liability because of his D or more accurately his lack of D.

I don't feel good about JaMychal Green as a PF. I see him as an alternative for the backup center spot to Biyombo and T Bryant rather than a PF. He has struggled badly as a PF in recent years. I don't trust him. He is really a small five at this point in his career. I believe his PF days are behind him.

Josh Richardson would be awesome for the TMLE. A two way wing who can play ahead of Hauser and let Hauser be the 2nd choice wing off the bench. A role much more comfortable for Hauser given his mediocre D.

Eric Gordon would also be a fine option if he is indeed waived by LAC which looks highly likely given how much they would have to pay in luxury tax payments.

I like E Gordon on our bench more than Lowry or other PG types. I prefer having a true SG there rather than a 3rd PG behind D White and Brogdon. I believe a true SG would better complement our current guards and team.

I like Georges Niang as a backup PF option. Not much of a defender but a great outside shooter. He played well against us for Philly and I was impressed by him during his time in Utah as well.

He'd be near the top of my budget backup PF list.

I almost made a post like this about Niang.  Do you think he could play PF?  I feel like he was in at SF for Philly.

The reason I didn't post it is because his stats are almost identical to Hauser's.  It's eery.  Niang just got a few more minutes, but all the averages are almost the same.

I disagree about Hauser's defense being mediocre.  I think the "white guy who was undrafted" label is muddying the waters.  His team defense is outstanding (he learned for two years under Tony Bennett at UVa) and his man-to-man defense is much better than folks are giving him credit for.

There was a YouTube video someone shared a month or two ago of Hauser's defense and it was surprisingly good.

Yeah, Niang gets most of his minutes at PF. The vast majority. Has done for a few years. Not surprised his stats are so similar to Hauser. Niang is basically a SF on offense but lacks the footspeed on defense so he plays PF instead. He has enough bulk to defend up a position and do that. If he could only play SF, he would have a much harder time getting on the floor because his lack of quickness.

I have general agreement with you on Hauser's defense. I too feel he is under-rated defensively. I see him as a bit below average though. But much closer to average than towards the bottom. I feel most have him in the lower percentile like bottom 25% or bottom 33% (of SFs defensively). I'd have him around 40% or something like that. Spit-balling numbers there.

Hauser has solid height and length. Moves his feet reasonably. Lacks strength but at 6-8 can cause enough issues as a defender to put up decent resistance against most opponents. It would be different if he was only 6-4. Being 6-8 helps a lot on defense both in man d, team d and switches. Having that size and length to bother shooters.

So very good offense combined with decent defense making him a pretty good bench player overall. At least middle of the pack backup SF if not a bit above average.

I am a big fan of this group, except with Biyombo over Thomas Bryant. Good rebounder and defender, which I like more as a sort of dollar shop Timelord for when he misses games.

All those bigs can play with one another, which is something I like (and something Brad continues to mention. Lots of lineup versatility at our disposal, a balanced bench with scoring, shooting, defence and experience. I like that team a lot. Playoff 8-man rotation of the below is super strong!

1. Tatum
2. Brown
3. Porzingis
4. White
5. Brogdon
6. R Williams
7. Horford
8. Richardson

Taurean Price waived. He'd be an interesting fit as a 3 and D guy to shore up the wing. Not someone who is going to do much for himself other than those two things but would add some nice grit and depth. I'm not sure what he'd cost but I don't perceive it to be a whole lot.

Hmmmmm -- I wonder if Royce O'Neal will have the same fate. He's only partially guaranteed and the extra $7M he's going to cost to keep around for the next year is going to cost the Nets luxury tax. He'd be an even better version of that. That might be my favorite idea yet if he ends up being a cap casualty.

I would be thrilled with Royce O'Neale. Good 3PT shooter, defender, and passer. His passing separates him from a lot of the other 3&D candidates.
