Is anyone else confused/concerned about no announcement on Jaylen Brown's new contract?  I thought it could be announced officially as early has last midnight.  Are there any trade rumors concerning him?  I haven't seen any on Twitter. Wondering if the negotiation went off the rails.

Not me personally. No news doesn't necessarily mean bad news, it's only day 1.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

What is the consensus on us giving him the supermax? That if we regret it that we can trade him for value... or could it be like a Westbrook situation where no one would touch him due to the crazy high salary... I would imagine it wouldn't be as bad as an over-the-hill Westbrook but could we really get anything of value for JB on a close to $60M/year AAV deal if we regret it? It kind of seems like we are stuck... that we are in a bad spot whether or not we give JB the supermax.

I see it in between those two points. We will be able to trade Jaylen but not get an equivalent talent back. Only a lesser player. So it will make it harder to trade Jaylen in a trade that benefits the team. His trade value will go down after signing that supermax deal. That is my expectation.

Royalties to Andrew Lloyd Webber for this thread?

Idk - seems like got to extend him. If it costs this crazy amount of $$ so be it.

Is there a deadline for JB to sign his new contract? I know he has 1 year left so definitely he’d be with the team barring any trade. But in terms of signing the extension, is there a deadline for Boston and Jaylen to do it?

read this online. not sure what to make of it.

are there other players eligible for extensions that haven't signed yet? Maybe they told Brown, we will sign you but lets get through the first few days of free agency first.

As VP of players union, I doubt he could accept anything below super max even if he wanted to. Which would be ironic given how he takes $$ away to sign other players.

I think fans need to re-set their expectations of what "stars" should be paid. There was a time $45million for Harden looked like alot. Now Van Fleet is making $45million.

Lamelo Ball is making $53million and hasn't really won anything.

so, while it seems like alot and a crazy number $60million for Brown is in line with what alot of these guys are making.

In a couple years when more guys are on supermax contracts it probably won't even be top 10. But who cares what wyc pays? brad's clear goal is to win a championship in the next 3 years. Having Brown puts us closer to that goal. If we don't win with 3 all-star caliber guys reaching their peak ages (25,26,27) we are blowing it up either way and its a sign of a more major issue.

So we are at day 3 now. Will today be the day?

It's Abit odd they haven't even started negotiating.

It is.  It’s certainly not impossible that Jaylen had some personal things to attend to, and since the Celtics were obviously going to be focused on free agency they both agreed to wait a few days.

Hmm 3 days and he still hasn't signed a supermax yet. Maybe he's on the trading block for Damian Lillard  ???

After all, Tatum is actively recruiting Lillard to Boston according to SI.

If the cap goes up the full 10% next year Jaylen could sign for as much as 304/5. Which is an absolutely insane number.

If it goes up 10% again the next year Tatum could be getting an almost 335/5.

If it goes up another 10% the year after that Doncic (if he doesn't ask out first, and if he makes another all-nba team) could demand a super max of something approaching 368/5.

I'm not sure if the NBA will get a full 10% bump next year, but starting with the new TV rights deal in 25' you'd think they be pushing near it at least for a couple years. The contract numbers for here on out are going to get insane.

I have mixed feeling on giving a guy that much money that cannot dribble and makes just terrible decisions in the playoffs.

I have mixed feeling on giving a guy that much money that cannot dribble and makes just terrible decisions in the playoffs.

You don't score 27 ppg by not being able to dribble. The guy dribbles fine, could be better but its fine. Before game 7 he was averaging under 3 to's per game in the ECF. He finished with 25 total to's that series, one less than Tatum who nobody really thinks can't dribble or makes bad decisions.

Jaylen's problem was not REALLY to's or decision making. His problem was Brogdon and Tatum both got hurt and nobody else could hit a three in game 7 which put everything on him, and he was in the middle of a series where he couldn't hit a shot either. 16% from three in the ECF. If you NEED to hit shots, but can't, you will look awful.

I'd give him the supermax, I'd try to get a discount first, see if he'll take 32% instead of 35%, but I'd give it to him. This is the new price for good players in the NBA and the other option is trade him for what will probably be a low return given he's an expiring contract. I'd prefer he was a top 10 NBA player rather than top 20-25 but he's who we got. He's a hard worker, might still have another small jump in him, and even if he doesn't that will be a tradeable contract.

Certainly interesting that nothing has come out yet about the extension, except that no earnest negotiations have taken place yet.

On Friday I think Himmelsbach said both sides were expecting to get a deal done, but that was before the official Dame trade request. Further, since then we’ve had reports that Boston has reached out about Dame’s price, along with reports of JT recruiting Dave to Boston.

I still think a JB extension is most likely and our best course, and I doubt we’d trade JB for him. However, it’s certainly possible that we feel that we’d rather maximize our next 2-3 year window via a Dame trade, and putting JB on the table (either to Portland directly or via a three team trade) would certainly put our offer at or near the top. I think a lot of this may be based on how JT feels.

That said, I just hope Portland doesn’t cave and trade him to Miami for 30 cents on the dollar when there are better options on the table. Would be a continuing terrible precedent for this league. Can’t just give guys huge money and contracts and then be peer pressured into acquiescing their every wish on a trade.
