Was watching some film on the guy, and he is really fun to watch on defense. Got the perfect build for a wing defender (6'6" with a 7'2" wingspan), very athletic, amazing footwork, ect. Dude's an absolute bulldog as well, hard-nosed and physical. It's a rare set of attributes to get so late in the draft, which of course is due to his offensive shortcomings. If Brad and co. truly believe that he could develop even an average shot, I can see why they would be high on him.

He's also only 19, so he's still very young. He has time to develop. For his sake, he probably should have stayed at Arkansas and continued to work on his game. Could have played himself into being a 1st round pick next year.

Ringer video on defenders in this draft class. They gush about Walsh and even suggest that Stevens would really like him (this is when the C's had the 35th pick).

Yeah, I just was watching that and clapped (to myself) when the guy said he could see Boston taking him in the 2nd round.  TP.

I love this pick.  I think he will get a chance to play in the rotation by end of season.

Walsh is a very intriguing prospect. Depending on who we sign I could see him getting some spot minutes this year. You can play him at 4 positions based on his defense. If that jump shot comes along he is a steal.

I liked him as an option at #35.  He's an excellent defender who seems to work hard.  In a vacuum, I think he's good value where we got him.

But, we passed on some very good prospects before taking him.  Those Gus taken between #25 and #37 are going to be interesting to watch.

From an offensive standpoint there were many many better options in the draft.

But I think Brad knew what he was doing.  Walsh could become the best defender out of the entire draft if developed properly.  But can his offensive game catch up to his defense to the point where he's not a liability on the court is the question.

Guys with shaky offense, they can drop a lot and I feel like Brad knew he could wait and wait to pull the trigger on Walsh and meanwhile make a lot of trade downs for those extra 2nd round picks.

The good news is that Walsh has the kind of athleticism and length that can translate to the next level.

Will he be a lifetime Maine Celtics and never get to the next level?  Who knows.

BTW am I the only one who thinks Walsh has a weird shaped head?  He gives me Sam Cassel vibes with that cranium he looks part alien and part human!  But as long as he ends up a good basketball player, I guess I don't mind, he's a Celtic now!

I like the pick. Seems high floor.

Also, I don't think we should read much into his offensive stats.

He shot 20/72 from 3 for the year.. he makes just a few more and his percentage goes to league average.

Also shot 50 from the field (higher if you remove his skewing 3 point %)

The Iguodala comparison seems accurate, gangly, rangy.

His jump shot looks a bit like D White and Rudy Gay.

Hope we give him 3 years with 2 unguaranteed.

From the videos I have seen, he’s a better than average defender with a great motor. Apparently he needs to improve a lot on the offensive side, but I have to say, his shot doesn’t look bad. He actually has a nice looking jumper. I have no idea if that will translate into him improving, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

Tony Allen fancied himself a point guard when he came into the league.  I don’t think Walsh has any such illusions.

What I loved about Walsh in the tournament and from the highlights I've watched is that he is a multiple effort defender.

He will stop his player from driving, help off his man to stop another drive, and then close out to a shooter.

That type of effort and defensive ability should eventually translate to time in the NBA. He will likely be a favorite of mine right away.

I'm on Team Grant, but I thought the same thing when the pick was made.  (Still, I don't think he can replaced Grant this year, but in a couple).

He is very unlike Grant, as he has elite athletic ability and length.   He also isn't coming strong and needs to get strength.

While he might be Grant Insurance, he is no Grant 2.O.    I think he could play defense from the get go in the NBA.   Offensively he needs reps to improve his shot so he will see time in the G League.

So could Romeo Langford. He's a crapshoot just like any pick below the lottery (and even within the lottery).
He's a minimum 2 years away from helping the team - maybe longer. The other risk is you spend 3 years developing him, he's finally ready to play and then he moves on.
