NBA star Kyrie Irving intends to meet with the Phoenix Suns when the free agency period begins on June 30, league sources tell
@NBAonTNT, @BleacherReport.

The new Suns owner doesn't care about the new CBA.
Is Kyrie down to take the MLE or minimum or whatever tiny amount the Suns could offer who currently have 4ish max players?

I'm assuming they'd try to do a sign & trade around Ayton.

They can't sign and trade for Kyrie because they're above the apron, I believe.  He doesn't have a player option for this year, right?

They can.  Kyrie would have to take a pay cut, however.  Seems unlikely, and the Mavs would have to help out.

Also, Kyrie is different and you never know when he’d say “I’m going to play for the minimum to show everyone I don’t care about the money”.  Like, that’s crazy talk, but it’s also Kyrie, so who knows.

On one hand, that wouldn't shock me at all. But he forced his way out of Brooklyn because he felt "disrespected" by their extension offer.

He’s a walking inconsistency, so who knows.

The Suns already have roughly 130 million committed to just 3 players (Booker, Beal, Durant) and a S&T hardcap you at the first apron so about 165 million. It would have to be A STEEP discount just to fill out the roster with minimums.

Stick a fork in the Suns if this happens

My mental math was off and I had them with $120 million to those three, not $130 million, letting Kyrie get $25-27 million if everyone else was at the minimum.  I retract my earlier comment and agree I have no clue.

https://www.masslive.com/celtics/2023/06/former-celtics-wing-open-to-boston-reunion-in-free-agency-report.html

If we can’t get JRich, I’d welcome Javonte Green back with open arms for the vet minimum to help with backup wing minutes.

Am I the only person that thinks Josh Richardson is an unrealistic target? I keep seeing his name come up, but I think he can get more than $5m in free agency and find a team with a more featured role.

I am the opposite. I am surprised so many people think he will get more than the minimum.

I don't see any team offering a more significant role than the C's will be offering. A comparable role, yes, but not a bigger one.

Idk about that. A team like Cleveland can offer him a potential starting role with a chunk of their non-taxpayer MLE, say $7m or so. It's not like the free agent market is full of wing players this year. There's talk of Max Strus getting $12m per year and Dillion Brooks is going to get around $15m. Kelly Oubre is probably going to get similar money. Those are the "name" guys. After that is a drop off but teams will still have a need.

I would be surprised if CLE viewed Josh Richardson as a long term starter at SF. He is a two guard by trade who can play some SF and some PG but those secondary positions are not where he best plays. Josh Richardson is a bit small for a SF. 6-6 thin. Doesn't rebound well. He is the more the type of player who can give you some minutes there rather than play there full time.

CLE already have a similar level if not superior SF in Cedi Osman and another player in Okoro who may or may not have upside. Josh Richardson feels more like a lateral move (if that) rather than an upgrade for them.

I'm not even sure Josh Richardson is still an NBA player, but it feels like many want him for the TPMLE or thinks he's a possible starter on contenders.

Reminds me a bit of the Tristan Thompson situation from several years ago. We gave him the MLE thinking he was the beef we needed inside, but really he was only worth the minimum and was a fringe rotation player.

Is there anyway the Suns flip Beal to the Mavs for Irving+McGee or something like that? Or even a bigger trade than that with the Mavs getting Ayton (rumored around the draft) and Beal, and the Suns getting Irving, Hardaway, McGee, and Bullock?

That'd be nuts.

Edit: I know the Suns can't aggregate Beal (could be two separate deals) and that Beal has a no-trade (more money with no state tax!), but just thinking.

Technically the answer is yes, but the Suns would have to send out less salary than they take back by several million.  But Beal just forced his way to Phoenix — he’s not waiving that no-trade a week later.

i just read this elsewhere concerning the collins trade between utah and atlanta. ainge is really good at this gm stuff.

--------------------

So Ainge has turned Russell Westbrook / Rudy Gobert / Donovan Mitchell / Rudy Gay’s corpse into:

Lauri Markannen (26 yo)
Walker Kessler (21)
John Collins (25)
Collin Sexton (24)
8 1st round picks (4 for Gobert, 3 for Donovan, 1 for Westbrook)
3 1st round pick swaps
$48M in cap space for 23-24
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Danny Ainge and his heists...did it to Brooklyn and now done it again with Minnesota. GMs ought to be careful when dealing with him
