I did a screenshot of my TV and I really don’t think he had it in his hands before the 24 second clock expired.  Celts should have definitely challenged it at least.

Anyhow.. Bonehead play and they probably would have found a way to lose that game regardless.
Yup

Could they have challenged though?

Probably not.  I don’t know all the stupid rules with what they can look at an not.

It shouldn’t have come to that really. We had so many opportunities to pad on the lead but executed poorly. I counted at least two ATOs that we turned the ball over due to poor execution. This loss stings.

Looked like a violation to me in real time. I'm not going back to the DVR though. The last thing i need right now is to watch more of the Celtics dogging it.

I thought that was how the NBA wanted it called.  That they didn't want play stopped if the shot clock went off a split second before the defense player gets control of the ball.  When you make a bonehead play like that, the shot clock going off shouldn't save you.

What irked me way more was a clear charge by Maxey that the refs reviewed and determined was an -and 1 even though he was clearly outside the restricted area. What BS. It’s a sign this is rigged. Not making excuses for the C’s either but that sort of stuff is bush league too yet sadly it happens often

Replay doesn’t work. It’s all about agendas and refs anyways

It looked legit to me in real time. Besides, at least three Celtics had good looks on that possession and decided it was better to play hot potato instead of shooting.

On replay, it appeared to me that Maxey was already leaving the ground by the time Smart slid in, and that's why they called it a foul. Which makes sense to me, once guys are launching off, it's dangerous for players to slide in under them.

The replay in the play by play on NBA.com shows the ball about 1 foot from Maxey's hands as the light on the top of the shot clock is going off.  It was the definition of a bang bang play and in no way can the refs determine that in live action, they let the play continue as they should have.

The Smart attempted drawn charge was called correctly as he was not in legal guarding position as Maxey began his upward motion.

They missed a foul call when Tatum was driving in the lane for a hoop. Or five.

Then again, I don't wanna blame the refs. Refs will be refs. I'm sure Harden missed some calls his way. This team should not be playing like dogcrap night in and night out. They lack defensive intensity.

Yeh.  Not trying to make excuses.  It was a bonehead play all around and the Celtics 100% are accountable for losing to an Embiid-less Sixers team.

I’m just questioning whether it was the right call. I’ve seen hundreds of 24 second violations calls when the defending team is is just gaining possession of the ball, but those are generally off of rebounded desperation air balls. I’d assumed the same decision making process would go into this play.

I guess it’s maddening that you see so many plays overturned on replay with “letter of the law” interpretations, but this one didn’t apply.

Anyhow…onward and upward

Nobody wanted to shoot the [dang] ball on that possession. Superstar players don't pass up on shots, yet Brown and Tatum couldn't wait to defer to someone else on that play. Tatum had a great game, but once again, couldn't take over and match Harden down the stretch. Their superstar stepped up in the clutch, and Tatum was a bystander.

I'm not going to cry over a half second shot clock violation, or a flop that could've been called a charge. The Celtics should have beaten that team easily last night.

There was also a 24 second violation in a key moment in the Atlanta series. Iirc Brogdon was involved in that too. My gf and i were both screaming for someone to shoot it and were mystified when noone did

The more I think about that "pass" by Brogdon, the more I think it might be the worst pass I've ever seen thrown in an NBA game.

Given the time on the clock (none, so no Celtic would've had a chance to shoot it even if it been a good pass), the situation in the game (it's a 1 point game, time winding down, big moment), and just how terrible the pass was (directly into the hands of the fastest player on the floor at the top of the key with no one between him and his basket), maybe the worst pass I've ever seen.
