Getting back to the game, Al Horford had an interesting box score. Zero points (his only shots were 2 threes), but 11 rebs, 5 assts, and an overall +17 in 34 minutes. I think that means that when he was off the court, the team was -9. That is quite an impact.
I didn't see enough of the game to understand what was going on but I am guessing ATL took a "Horford is not going to beat us" approach and Al adjusted, took less shots, and focused on passing and rebounding (and defense).
Al had a DRTG of 100.0 in a game where the Hawks scored 121 overall in 107 possessions. Now I am not sure if I am doing this math right but Al played for 76 possessions out of a total of 107 possessions. If his DRTG was exactly 100.0, that means ATL scored 76 points in the 76 possessions that Al was on the floor. That leaves 45 points scored in the 31 possessions Al was not on the court, a DRTG of 145. That is just a ridiculous impact by Al, if my math is right.
Both teams had 107 possessions. Al had 76 possessions but I guess that doesn't mean that ATL had exactly 76 possession in that time also but I am not sure. I think worst case, my math could be off by a possession or 2.
