If Boston wins it all then no doubt Brad should be EOY. If not maybe Danny with how he’s transformed Utah into a competitive team while amassing draft picks along the way (very similar to what he did with Boston).

Brad should certainly be in consideration.

Fair question.  I would say that Brad Stevens is the leader in the clubhouse based on his off season moves.  But the Celtics didn't do much since so other teams like PHO or LAL, if things work out for them and they have a playoff run, could catch up or pass.

who will win: a GM at a 'glamour' franchise that acquired one of the big names at the deadline that got the best result --> in short, either Dallas (for Kyrie), Phx (for Durant) or Lakers (if they turn it around just because it's the Lakers)

Cleveland should be in with a shout too. That Donovan Mitchell trade has been very good. Nice deep roster. Balance.

I think Koby Altman should win.  He has done such a nice job in Cleveland really building that team.  They are just in year 5 post-Lebron and have a top 4 team in the conference with a real shot to make some noise in the playoffs.  Plus, they had a big gutsy trade that really worked out for them. 

I think the Durant trade to Phoenix could certainly put James Jones in contention.  And all of the tinkering Ainge did, and with Utah being solid, has to put him high up the list as well.

I think Brad has to be right towards the top alone with the Brogdon trade this summer and nabbing Galinari (even if he hasn’t played), and the Musky trade is gaining a lot of noise for its low key impact and fit. Given that we didn’t have huge needs, getting that Brogdon trade at that price and fit should be more than enough to put him as a contender.

That said, I think it will depend upon what happens with some of the other teams who had big splashes at the deadline, like Phoenix, Dallas, and then Cleveland with the Mitchell trade. I feel like Phoenix has the biggest threat if they rapidly rise up the standings when KD is back, but they still have work filling out their roster.

Regarding LAL, just don’t see it. They definitely improved at the deadline for what they gave up, but it’s only a marginal upgrade. No way they deserve it.

Brad hits singles (Moose) and doubles (Broggy, D White, Horford), has  a very high batting average, but doesn't hit for power, by design is my guess.

Others like Altman and Ainge go for the long ball.

Will depend on which approach you think is more impressive.   I like Brad's approach.  He can afford to go that way since he already has foundational pieces in the 2 Js.  He is not afraid to pay retail (e.g., Horford and D White) if he has confidence in the player he wants.  At the time of D White trade, it looked like an overpay to most of us.  As of today, it is looking like a steal. Ditto Horford trade.  Brogdon trade looked too good to be true when it happened, and continues to look real good.  And it is nice to see Nesmith doing well so that Indy doesn't have remorse.

My guess is that Brad won't get a lot of votes.  I think voters will say that he took a Finals team, and mostly tinkered around the edges outside of Brogdon.  I think they'll overlook that the "tinkering" was really, really well done, and that's even with some things outside of Brad's control (the Ime situation and losing Hardy, Gallo getting injured).

I think voters will go with somebody where his team's improvement is bigger (Sacramento, perhaps) or where a GM brought in a superstar (Cleveland, Phoenix).

I personally thought Brad deserved it last year, with his midseason moves that both brought the team closer to contention while also getting the Celtics out of the luxury tax.  (People here might not have liked the focus on avoiding the luxury tax, but those were clearly his marching orders, and as an executive he did a terrific job operating within those constraints).

It’s a tricky award, because much of the work of this year’s team was done last year (getting Horford and White, while extending Smart and Rob) compared to this year (getting Brogdon and now Muscala), but the same could also be said of Sacramento, since their biggest move was the Sabonis trade last deadline.

Regardless, I find all the posts here that complained Stevens was “kicked up to the front office” laughable.  He’s clearly an adept executive.

Honestly, I think it should be Brad, and here’s why. His moves this year were excellent, but the tie-breaker with a Cleveland or Phoenix, is how set up we are into the future. In addition to having top 3 championship odds this season, Brad has it set up so we have our top 12 (12!) players under team control for next year as well. Grant only walks if we want him to walk. Not to mention, after the draft, we still have all of our future firsts to make further moves to bolster the roster. Phoenix and Cleveland threw all their future firsts into play for a blockbuster acquisition. They got great players, but I wouldn’t call that hard to do. Brad has built a title favorite, locked the core up for what constitutes long-term in the NBA, and retained future asset flexibility to continue to add. He’s done the best GM-ing in the league recently.
