Prichard Wanted Trade Deadline Move

I like his energy and defensive effort.  However, he needs to work on finishing moves at the basket.  Too many blocked shots and missed bunnies.  I think Brad sees Payton as an excellent insurance policy this season.

It's almost a double-whammy for PP because he may get even fewer minutes now: MM is a good shooter and fills a front court position, so Brogdon and Brown don't need to play wing so much and instead can put in more time in the backcourt.

I agree but you missed my point: He will get even fewer minutes as a ball hawk with JB and MB spending more time at guard and less at wing.

PP isn't good enough to worry about where to send him.  I'm not saying he shouldn't want to make the most of his career, but he's not a starter on a good team and just like here, he's a fringe rotation player on a contending team.

Grant will be here, PP will not.  Grant is the primary back up big and even with the addition of Muscala, is still likely the primary back up bigman.  he's not doing anything this season so far that's going to earn him a payday bigger than the C's would be willing to pay to keep him.

For seemingly doing exactly this today, I’d give Pritchard a TP if I could (but let’s agree to stop calling him PP, a nick reserved for Truth). Nobody has any issue with Pritchard when he plays like he did today without whining. Flashes of returning to his rookie season spark. No more sophomore slump from here on out, please.

He should ask for more playing time, he deserves it - we just have an incredibly deep guard rotation of Brown/Smart/Brogdon/White.

Pritchard's sweetspot is 20-29MPG off the bench, where he has averaged 10.5/2.5/2.5 in 4 games this season (doesn't include games of 30+ mins, because I do not think that is his role). His career splits in that 20-29MPG role are 11.4/3.5/2.9 on 50/47/90 shooting, playing 37 games and averaging 24.3MPG in that spell. That is basically prime Patty Mills (slightly better, actually).

He'll never get the minutes he needs to get here, barring something major and unforeseen, like a mega trade involving two of our four main guards or some seriously bad injury luck. Let's win a chip with him this season, and then ship him if he still wants out.

Lot of people were mad at his comments, but if Pritchard can't even get playing time last night with Brogdon out and the team clearly gassed and struggling to shoot in the 2nd half + OTs, then I think he's right. Pritchard could have definitely made an impact last night against their guards and potentially given us a little spark. But he never even saw time on the court.

Is it a matchup thing? Because I got to say, if we're finding out GWill is unplayable against CLE and Pritchard is unplayable against NYK, then I'd argue the C's didn't do enough at the deadline or buyouts.

I know playoff rotations shorten but isn't the goal to also try and ease it up for our main guys down the stretch so they are as fresh as possible come playoffs? Other teams like MIL do that. For some reason though we just grind our guys all the way until Game 82.

I refuse to investigate if the bolded is true but on the face of it it just reads like heresy. That said, if we're relying on Pritchard to win games, with the roster we have, we're in serious trouble. Not a knock on him, just a fact of the depth chart.

I think it's partly due to his minutes being cut. But in Joe's defense, he's kind of brought that on himself. He's had some awful games, some where he's been more interested in complaining to the refs vs actually playing hard. And I think it soured Joe on him to an extent. 

If I were coaching I'd give him his minutes from now through the end of the season because they're going to need him in the playoffs. I don't think they can compete for the title without him being in the regular rotation. Hopefully consistent minutes means he can regain his shooting touch.  But Joe may also have to choose between him and Muscala.
