Id trade Derrick White if you can find and upgrade.

I think D White is too valuable to this team.

Just wait for buyouts candidates
Heard that before

Yeah.  Last year, was there even one meaningful buyout?

CBS has work to do at the deadline

Guys like Hauser, Kornet and Griffin are fine for mop up duty but not as reliable playoff depth…

These last few games in particular are kind of proving it more

How many times did they go to the JT well and come up dry?  It was agonizing. JBs FTs were nauseating, but he also missed the midrange that he makes in his sleep. This was an embarrassing loss.  And, despite the 8-game win streak, this team hasn’t been impressive in while. They choke leads, they melt when it’s tight at the end.  They need an infusion of something they don’t have right now. Hope Brad can do something to help.

An extra salary sure would be nice.  It would allow the team to acquire someone like Bogdanovic from Detroit.  Without including a starter (or Brogdon or White), it would take 5 players to get to the salary needed for him including Grant, PP, and Kornet (so 3 "useful" players).  That just makes him to hard to acquire.  It is just frustrating the team doesn't have another mid-range salary on the roster given how easy it would have been to acquire them in the summer into the Fournier TPE.

Yeah, I know, we should have gotten Noel, a completely useless player so that we could trade a useless player to a team that will give us back a useful player.  Detroit does not want to take back useless salary in a trade for Bogdanovic or anyone else.  That would just be that many more draft picks we have to include.

I understand the theory here but I am not sold.  I don't think it is a good idea to bring in useless players just so that you have a contract that you can maybe trade later by attaching some number of draft picks to.  It could work in our favor to do this in a best case scenario.  It also might just result in us being stuck with a useless player, or trading away a bunch of picks for a player that only marginally improves the team.

Expiring contracts are the building blocks of trades all of the time, though.  This isn't some theory that people on this blog came up with.

Yeah, you build up your salaries well beyond the cap with the game of trades. Mathematically it’s hard to do it otherwise without a lot of patience.

Some intriguing names on the list, RJ Hampton, Gary Harris, Ross, and Bamba, each having their own merit.

I'd guess Harris costs the most to acquire.  From there, Bamba, Hampton, and Ross (age).  I liked Hampton during the draft but getting Harris might be a decent shot in the arm.  Hampton fits into a TPE whereas Dano/PP for Bamba works, obviously would need a pick or two.

Bulls want two first rounders for Alex Caruso. That’s….hopeful.

Carusos a good 9th man at best.

Hampton is definitely the easiest to acquire.  The Magic declined his option for next season already.  I actually thought they’d already released him.  Regardless he can be had for free, but there’s no reason to make such a move.

Can they do a 3 team deal and use the exception to acquire salary from Team A and flip that salary plus others currently on the roster to detroit?

No, that would be "aggregating" salary, and we can't aggregate salaries in trade for 60 days after acquiring him.

This is one reason I advocated for using the TPEs early in the season.  If we had, we could have traded those players and combined their salaries like you're suggesting.

That's ridiculous. They are dreaming if they think they can get 2 first rounders for him and as Blondie said Dreamin is Free.

The Celtics need to make some moves. Something, anything. This team as constituted doesn't have enough quality depth and needs some athletic, energy guys to sub for Brown when he doesn't feel like playing that hard (Like against the Knicks). This team likes to take games off and thinks they can still win. The Sixers and Celtics are trending in opposite directions and the Sixers are going to be in first soon if the Celtics don't change their ways.
