Twitter is buzzing about how ugly Tatum’s sneakers are, check them out here:

I guess there is supposed to be three variations, this is the St. Louis one.

Quote
Leak: (Celtic) Tatum's first signature shoe, which has been called the "Jordan Tatum 1" and "Jordan JT1", is expected to release in March 2023 for $120 in adult sizes. Three colorways are already scheduled for the summer: 'Zoo,' 'St. Louis,' and 'Pink Lemonade.'

Those are horrible looking.  Looks like some mid-90s prototype that was thrown out and somehow resurrected.

So many horrid shoes these days.

And don't get me started on players wearing shoes that aren't their team colors ...

I'm not a good judge of style, especially re: sneakers.  When I was a kid, every couple years I'd be faced with a choice: high or low; black or white.     That was it.  And for the most part, that's the way it was for everyone.  I'm still pretty much in that mode, although the quality of sneakers has evolved in a crazy way.   My wife works in a middle school and one kid (not from a wealthy family by any standard) told her he got 5 new pairs of shoes (sneakers) for Christmas.   It's something I have no context for -- the "fashion" idea of it....

So I guess Tatum's shoe is ugly, but I still see sneaks through the black/white high/low lens -- everything else looks a little strange to me.  In full disclosure, my current pair (my only pair) is grey.  I'm being bold and trying new things.

I've never been much of a sneaker head, though there was probably a brief period of time around age 13-15 when I wanted the latest sneakers.  I do remember being frustrated about when they would be released though.

My rec leagues/junior high/high school teams seasons were usually over by last week of Feb/first week of March.  Only a fraction of college teams play past mid-March.

So when Nike would release their latest sneakers (or latest color scheme) at the All-Star game (or worse in the playoffs) I remember thinking that was so stupid, why would I buy these new Jordans if I can only wear them for like 1 game.  They should release them all at the start of the season!

Ha here I was thinking of them solely for their function and not the business/fashion aspects.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

How do red and black reflect St. Louis? (Legit asking.)

And where's our green version?!

Being a native of metro St. Louis area, the only thing I can think of is the Cardinals, which would make sense given how much of a cultural influence that team is on the area.

Chaminade was red.  Maybe that?  Don't know about the black.

Yeah, that’s definitely a possibility, too. The black also doesn’t necessarily go with the Cardinals either. Perhaps it’s just a fashion choice 🤷‍♂️

Either way, have to agree that they’re not my favorite haha

I'd think about them as an investment. Buy to store, and then sell them in 8 or 10 years at $500 to $2000 hopefully.

Pink lemonade looks kinda cool. Zoo looks ridiculous, like it belongs in Mugatu’s “Derelicte” collection.

New Balance 990V5 are the only sneakers to get for everyday use, or running/jogging. Totally worth the price. For balling, the New Balance Kawhi IIs are the best at this time (the first year or two of flagship Under Armour SC3s were epic, though, but they’re probably mass product 💩 now).

JT should dump Nike/Jordan for New Balance, especially after giving him clownish sneakers like that.

TP for the 😂 as I can relate. Although I’ll almost never deviate from black, sometimes something in a dark green will catch my attention.

At least have green for one of the color choices - Tatum does play for the Celtics.
I miss the days when the shoes matched the uniforms.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce
