Definitely. Why are NY getting rid of him???

Great D - especially if he is in a situation where he could win a chip - has been a good shooter at times.

P.S Atlanta have not drafted well for... I can't remember how long. I include Trae in that group... most overrated player in the NBA.

They traded Luka Doncic for Trae Young and another pick that became Cam Reddish.  It was a ballsy trade, there was plenty of risk with Luka at the time, getting two picks for him could have worked out well, but it didn't.

Pass.   He doesn't shoot well enough from three.

Reddish needs to be on a team that is tanking and will play him in a consistent role. I can see a scenario where the spurs move Mcdermott and I Richardson for future 2nds then make a move for a young guy like Reddish.

The Cs are to set in their rotation for a young unproven wing to earn any minutes.

I thought it was a horrid trade at the time and I thought Luka was a sure thing. I think I even suggested moving Brown and Tatum for him at the time. The way things have worked out I think that would've been an over pay but a lot of people thought Luka was a generational talent before the draft.

Hasn’t the knock on Reddish been he has elite talent but doesn’t get much out of it because he’s got a low motor?

To be honest, Trae Young turned out better than I thought.  He has been injured this year but he has established himself as a star player.  The second pick (Reddish) was a total whiff for ATL but there was potential that they could have gotten a second rotation level player.  They didn't of course, as drafting is a crap shoot.

As to Luka, he has fulfilled all the promise, that is for sure.  Ayton (PHO) and Bagley (SAC) were taken ahead of Luka.  He had questions regarding his draft value.  I was very surprised that ATL did trade him but if you consider that PHO thought Ayton was better and SAC thought Bagley was better, it is not so surprising that ATL thought that Young plus another pick (likely a good pick) was worth the trade.  All 3 of these teams now wish they had just taken Luka of course.

Actually, in terms of draft hit percentages, having 2 (Young and Doncic) of the 3 turn out to be stars and only one (Reddish) to be a miss, is actually pretty good.  Reddish was a 10th pick.  Think if Reddish had turned out to be say as good as Marcus Smart.  Young has turned out about as good as Brown.  Doncic turned out to be the better value even in that better case hypothetical but there was no guarantee of that.  Dallas rolled the dice and won.  ATL took the safer route and lost.

I'd go back to San Antonio and trade 2 second round picks for Richardson.

Giving up who, though?

I'd love to see him get bought out, but barring that we can't easily match salaries unless you're dumping one of our top-8 players.

I know it's low risk, but I don't see the benefit.  He's never been a great 3 pt shooter - where would he fit in?  I don't think insurance for Hauser is that necessary.

Gallo, Pritchard, and Jackson would work.

Cam Reddish for two 2nd round picks would be a risk worth taking...

https://www.si.com/nba/celtics/top-stories/knicks-reportedly-interested-in-trading-wing-should-celtics-consider-deal

Can't see the appeal.

He's been a terrible defender - not that he's getting a chance to show it, as he's not even playing spot minutes at this point. The Knicks are 5 of their last 6, with an uptick in team defense, so his prospects are dimming rather than brightening.

I'll never say never; I'm the apostle of guys transforming their games. And so much of NBA defense is just experience, attention, and effort. But let's be realistic - he's got a steep hill to climb.

You can be confident that Brad Stevens is not entertaining giving up any assets for Reddish; and it's not clear to me why you'd want to occupy a precious roster spot with him.

'I was proud of Marcus Smart. He did a great job of keeping us together. He might not get credit for this game, but the pace that he played at, and his playcalling, some of the plays that he called were great. We obviously have to rely on him, so I’m definitely looking forward to Marcus leading this team in that role.' - Jaylen Brown, January 2021

If he had another year on his contract, I might like the idea, but he is a RFA after this season and I don’t think he would make this year’s rotation.
