The All-Star should just be called the name recognition games. You shouldn't even be aloud in the conversation if your team isn't in the top six in each conference! What a joke!

We should just get rid of the fan voting or decrease its weight.

It seems like you guys confuse the All-Star teams and the All-NBA teams. The All-Star game is all about having fun. If the majority of people want to watch a specific star player, it doesn't necessarily mean he's better than somebody else. For instance, Yao Ming was a regular starter cause he's massively popular in China. Does that mean he was better than Shaq?

I agree it's a game for the fans so let them have it all I say. Its our mind set that has to change on the meaning of selection. Popularity is everything for the all star game not necessarily skill or season.

Fully agree with the OP. Guess which flat-earther is leading the East voting for guard?

I could go either way on it. I am not the least bit interested in the game. Never watch. I suppose the 3-point competition is ok - other than that, zero interest.
If an all-star selection has meaning beyond the game - as in a contract incentive or something that impacts HOF voting…. then fan voting shouldn’t be a significant determinant of who gets on the teams.  If it’s all about the fans and fun, call it ‘the fans all-star game’ and let it be driven 100% by fan preference.

Here's a thought-
Why not have an All-Star game and an All-NBA team game?
Have the East and West All-NBA teams play each other.

The problem is all star appearances hold weight when being considered for the HOF.  Not as much as All NBA but they’re still part of the conversation

I had a problem when starters were voted on solely by the fans.  I'm OK with the current set up that also includes players and press.  Give the fans the tie breaker, but keep them from electing players that don't deserve to be all stars.  At the end of the day, all star appearances influence the Hall of Fame Vote, but no one cares if someone was elected a starter or reserve.

Ditto except that for me, the Skills Competition is probably the best event.

The ASG wasn't like this back in the 80's-90's. Sure there was a bit hot-dogging in the 1st half, but then it usually got dead serious in the 2nd half.  Bird, I. Thomas and Jordan really wanted to win, and I rooted for the East.

I'd like to see the a team of the best 15 from across the league (5 play each quarter with the top five playing the fourth) go up against a team of college all stars.

imho, there are too many All Star caliber players in the NBA... yet they cannot all be All Stars. :D

Regardless... the ASG has been boring for at least the last decade. I wish they would play defense... take that game seriously. I don't care for 50 in-game dunks and 50 3pointers. Thats what the Globetrotters are for.

Here are the latest numbers (sorry, not good at advanced formatting).

The East doesn't seem too bad.  Maybe one exception is Derick Rose.  The West not so much with the CA (LAL and GSW) bias and also the injured player (Zion, Davis) getting so many votes.

I would rank things a little differently but this is fan vote so you expect recognizable players like Kyrie and Harden come in higher than some of the lesser known players who may be equal or better.  But Kyrie and Harden are still very good players.
