The 7 assists were a good sign. I’m wondering if he could eventually be 90% of what Horford is now.

That’s a very big ask, I think.

Too big an ask. Luka probably tops out as a bench big. Al is a very good starter and he's quite a bit past his prime.

samanic is clearly a g league god. i have seen highlights only, so it is hard to judge. but....

he can shoot the ball.
he is physical under the basket.
he rebounds in traffic.
he has a variety of low post/mid range moves.

my biggest question is over his speed....he seems a bit slow. not tacko slow, but a bit slow for the speed in the nba. i think he can play coming off the bench for a team.

i am glad the celtics have him on their maine team and i hope they can find a way to keep him. he is better than vonleh, i think.

I kinda like Vonleh. Obviously we need someone better to provide size and be a long term Al replacement and a viable stand-in when Rob’s hurt. But Vonleh moves better than I expected- can handle pretty well for a man that big, and has shone some grit and hustle on both ends. He’s just not quite good enough.  A good player who isn’t NBA good.
So a guy a notch or 2 better than Vonleh who is 22 and is reclaiming his game after injury - could be a viable candidate. Pop picked him at #19 which is a good sign.  Sign him and put him in the category of Davison, Yam, and Begarin.  Possible contributors or assets down the road.

I didn’t mean that he could be close to Al in his prime, but the current 36 year old Al.  Definitely, wishful thinking on my part.

I'm with you. If Luka could match 36 year old Al in Luka's prime that would be something. They seem like very different players and Luka really needs to work on the defensive end of the floor.

Can another team pluck Luka off Maine roster or we got him all season?
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Yes, he’s not signed to an NBA or two way contract.

good points and a good list of possible-players.

PBOS bought in and waited on the green kornet and hauser. if any 1, heck maybe even 2, of that list above turn into rotation celtics i would be tickled pink.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Yam and Begarin are still draft assets. We control them. Samanic cannot be the same as them. He has been drafted and released (by San Antionio). He is a free agent.  Can sign where ever he wants.

We can cut Kabengele to make Samanic a 2 way, the same as Davison, which to me seems sensible.  Or we can cut a roster player and sign him as a regular roster. But we cannot stash him because we have no draft rights to him.

Who do you think is more ready as an end of the bench contributor, Luka or Kabengele? I mean if Luka keeps this up, some team may take a chance on him soon. If we want to retain him, perhaps the only way is to sign either him or Kabengele to a contract and and make the other a 2 way player. You’d have to cut Justin Jackson to make room. I think I’m good with that scenario.

Those are the choices. I would swap Kabengele for Samanic. I like Kabengele but don’t see him as ever being an NBA player.  Samanic seems to have some upside, more like Hauser.

Doesn’t seem Jackson is bringing much to the table. Would Luka be an upgrade?

I'm not sure but Jackson might be the better defender at this point. They also don't play the same position. Luka is clearly a big and Jackson is a wing. Neither will probably play anything but garbage minutes.
