Kornet cannot play in the nba. He’s flat out terrible. Vonleah no better. One guy off the bench worth a darn.

Kornet +10 Smart -16...

Hauser +23, Jaylen -21...

Vonleh +5, Tatum -10...

It doesn't really work that way.

I watched the game. Smart was way worse than a -16. Just an eyesore...

Make a better argument than plus-minus, then.  It's meaningless, unless you're similarly going to argue that Vonleh was better than Tatum, etc.

Marcus sucked, both in terms of shooting and defense along with one bad turnover.  But, I attribute the loss moreso to only having one playable big on the roster.

Joe getting blasted online about the defensive scheme change. Don't know how you make such a change after it being so successful last year, regardless of the slight personnel changes to start the year.

But the lack of big men depth is also a clear contributing factor.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

Well, at least these issues are showing up early. There’s a lot of time to fix it. I just hope Brad doesn’t wait too long, because clearly we have big man issues.

Kornet legit stood there in OT and watched. Smart was awful also
Did he watch or did the defense break down on the perimeter because no one could keep Mitchell and LaVert from going wherever they wanted?

I watched him closely most of the game.  When in there, he mostly just stood there, doing the occasional pirouette.

He's not an NBA-caliber player.

He's a guy you hope not to have to play.  And if so, only for short minutes to give others a breather.  Can he be that 3-minute guy without too much damage?  I think he probably can.  But asking any more of him isn't good for anyone.  Vonleh has his moments as does Griffin.  Bottom line is they need a 5 who can contribute solid backup minutes.  When Rob is back the need isn't the same, but Horford obviously needs rest and he's not getting much with Kornet and Vonleh as the next guys up.  By the time Rob is back, Al just might be cooked - got to get fewer minutes and games off.

Coming off 3 days of rest that is a horrible performance. Last season doesn’t mean squat to this new squad.

Defense and rebounding the issue.
Brad needs to address the rebounding by getting a real big that can actually move, jump, box out, be physical.

Not sure why this defensive scheme has been implemented. It’s rank.

I wish we could get Poeltl or even Zach Collins from the Spurs.

The guards couldn't guard was more reason than the bigs.

Anyone worried that Horford may be finally falling off the cliff?

Being out rebounded by almost 10 just as big. Allowing the cavs to have 9 offensive boards can’t happen. Rebounding all season has been a massive issue

This is because you have one 36 year old big and absolutely no big behind him that can hold the fort, give Al a break or contribute whatsoever.

This is spot on. We badly need an upgrade on our big man rotation.

Unfortunately Celtics are not as good as they think they are. Smart should also stick to defence and stop shooting ridiculous 3s. Tatum struggled against the Cavs double team in the second half

I don't think he's falling off a cliff, but it should be obvious to anybody that he's not the sole big man you want in your starting lineup.

In fairness to him he had some nice kick outs, his teammates just failed to hit the open shots. Gallo would have been really huge for our second unit. Maybe Brad needs to revisit the Melo idea. We need bench scoring as much as rebounding and defense.

watched on tape delay.  tonight's hot takes:
- Team has been either getting off to crappy starts and having to come back or starting off well but falling off a cliff.  tonight it was the former.
- Team defense is horrible.  Timelord's absence alone doesn't explain how the defense has become so bad.
- Smart stunk.  I mean really stunk.  didn't defend nearly well enough.  threw up bricks all game.  bad passes throughout the game.   can't pin the loss completely on him but he gets the prize for biggest negative impact on the team tonight.
- Kornet didn't do anything to show he deserves a roster spot.  Brad needs to do whatever it takes to get Favors in here to take Kornet's spot.
- Rebounding still a serious problem for this team.
