This is difficult to admit,

I’d take KO back over Trashnet

I'd take Tyler Zeller back over him lol
Those two are worlds better than Kornet.

I would take Moose Monroe or Steamboat Stiemsma over Kornet

Hell I'd take Jordan Mickey Mouse over him probably
You'll summon triboy with talk of Mickey

Great guy and nice locker room addition that can't defend a lick.   We all know he can shoot the three.   But his rim protection is poor and his rebounding is anemic for his size.   He is not a good basketball player.   This signing mystified me and I think he would not be in the league if not for Brad Srevens mercy.    The Magic  attacked him mercilessly and he will be a weak point on D that other teams attack.

I too would rather have Favors.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
It should be noted that he only has a $1M guarantee up until 1/10, so he is still relatively easy to waive in order to sign somebody else. Obviously you can waive either of Kornet or Jackson, but I don't see that same guarantee on Jackson's contract and it's possible every dollar saved will be important because of the tax.

Anyway, yeah, I was preaching this all summer and was sure he'd be gone before even his $1M guarantee kicked in. I was wrong. Don't want to be mean - Luke is a great locker room guy for sure - but it was a perplexing signing when it happened (we signed him almost immediately, like he was a prized FA) and we can see nothing has changed. Luckily Vonleh, Griffin, and even Kabengele should be able to provide productive minutes at the 5.

Good summary. I too thought they would cut him when he only had the 100K guarantee, now that guarantee is 10x higher.

I was kind of shocked at how bad he looked, even in short minutes. Numerous mistakes like missed defensive assignments, not blocking out properly, etc. His one true asset (his height) doesn't make up for incompetence.

Good guy, G-league player.

Sign Favors.

Or Cousins, Howard, Whiteside. Anyone has to be better. I hate to be like that, but he looks truly awful.

That's what I don't get. There are a handful of guys who have been or still are available (like Favors) but for some reason they just don't get them and keep Kornet. Like why?? He's so bad and doesn't offer anything.

What do Cousins, Howard and Whiteside all have in common. There’s your answer.  :)

All this consternation over the 14th guy on the team and 4th center on the depth charts that can be easily waived and replaced?

Did anyone else notice he wasn't the only center on the court that absolutely sucked last night? Blake had two hustle plays and got owned defensively and Vonleh was dominated down low defensively. All three forced Coach Mazz to play a drop down defensive system and it killed the overall defense, especially on the pick and roll.

Vonleh has major limitations and is better off in Kornet's 4th center role. Blake is better off playing PF and playing his minutes alongside a Timelord or Horford. Kornet probably has an expiration date as most very end of the bench guys do because they tend to be waived later in the season or included in trades for upgrades.

But until Timelord is back and/or a trade for a bench upgrade is made and/or someone shakes loose that wants to sign here(Favors for instance) and/or Stevens decides Coach Mazz is strong enough in the locker room to survive the turmoil that idiots like Whiteside, Howard or Cousins could bring, the team is stuck with what they have.

Kornet is fine as a deep bench piece who protects the paint some on a minimum contract. Guy missed almost all of camp and preseason with a sprained ankle and people want to wring their hands because he wasn't in mid-season form in his first minutes back...

I think that it's because, based upon his track record, they don't think he should be on an NBA roster.  29 teams seem to agree with that assessment.  It's compounded because Kornet could be replaced with a better player who plays a position of need.

First off, you have no idea if this is true, but let's assume it is. You want to replace the guy that 29 teams agree shouldn't be in the NBA with who? Guys 30 teams agree shouldn't be in the NBA like Whiteside, Howard or Cousins?

Were those guys parked in the G-league for most of last season?

I mean, is any of that true though? We saw the kind of fringe-NBA players that are out there as an alternative and, well, Layman/Thomas/Samanic/etc didn't blow me away. I'm not even sold on Justin Jackson, honestly.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over the end-of-the-bench guys. Between the Juancho and Schroeder TPEs, a likely Gallo DPE, and Pritchard looking like a trade candidate, I'm expecting some bench turnover once the season starts shaking out and teams make moves.
