"Boston Celtics big man received a PRP injection in his knee Monday to promote healing after undergoing arthroscopic surgery in late September, The Athletic's Shams Charania reported Tuesday.

According to Charania, the current plan is to have Williams return "at some point in the second half of the season."

Well, at least we've got Vonleh, Griffin and Kornet filling in.

I won't be shocked if Timelord misses the entire season.

Am I the only one that thinks we should retire the timelord nickname? Seems like people want to remind him that he missed one press meeting his rookie year. I don’t need to remind people of their mistakes constantly.

Nothing shocks me anymore with injuries and Timelord. He's a great player, I love watching him, but he's always an injury waiting to happen.

The meaning has evolved.  What started as mockery has become a term of endearment, and I'm pretty sure even Rob himself has embraced the name now.

I don't use it really - I just call him Rob - but I don't think there's any harm in the name either.

On the subject of the PRP injection, they claim that it doesn't alter his projected return date but I'm worried about all of this.  Have been since the playoffs.  Couldn't shake the feeling that he was sacrificing his long-term health for one shot at the title, and the offseason hasn't done much to alleviate those doubts.

Will stop calling him Timelord cause his knee to heal faster? For him to be less injury prone? To play better when healthy?

It sure didn't cause him not to sign here long term....on a team friendly deal. I think Robert has moved on from being called the Timelord and reluctantly accepted it. The nickname stuck.

Stick a fork in this guy. Contract looking worse and worse now. He’s basically salary cap filler. The guy just can’t stay healthy.

I thought the term Timelord referred to Rob jumping so high that he suspended time?  Not his tardiness at the beginning of his career.

this reeks of more Celtic medical staff incompetence at diagnosing and treating players.   unreal they didn't address this earlier in the offseason and are now having to add treatments to address what was described as a minor issue

Sometimes, injuries are more complicated than doctors can predict. That's why return date are estimated and not guaranteed. Rob initially  had a meniscus tear and a straight forward surgery. A PRP injection 8 months later isn't a typical outcome.

Yeah, if the doctors were the ones saying that playing on his knee wouldn’t risk further injury, I think that I’d be looking for new doctors.

PRP injections are nothing to worry about.

After the procedure, you may experience some soreness and bruising at the injection site. Because PRP injections are made up of your own cells and plasma, the risk of an allergic reaction is much lower than with other injectable medications like corticosteroids. Less common risks of PRP injections include: Bleeding.

Missing 41+ games is, though.

True, but it depends on the vagueness of “second half of the season.”  Does that mean early January, because the second half starts at New Years?  That’s not too out of line with the 8-12 weeks mentioned in late September after his surgery, and it’s plausible that the PRP injection was already included in that timeline, so nothing new here.  Game 42 is in mid-January, so again, not too out of the timeline.  After the All-Star break, as some define it?  Yeah, that’s a bit more to worry about.
