Losing those 3 games against Orlando May hurt our #1 seed

I didn’t even notice. Lol

We’re not talking about Mazzulla becoming the Boston Celtics’ full-time head coach and losing the interim tag. We’re not talking about his contract extension. We’re talking about his gum-chewing. “I haven’t chewed gum in the last 20 games and no one has said a word. No one has noticed it,” Mazzulla told host Justin Termine on the SiriusXM NBA Radio show Friday. – via Darren Hartwell @ NBC Sports

Joe Mazzulla quits gum chewing: 'It was messing up my heartrate variability'

“I’m changing up my breathing patterns, trying to just work on my focus and awareness during the game,” Mazzulla explained. “I felt like the gum chewing was messing up my heartrate variability and I wasn’t getting the breaths that I needed to be as focused as I was. So it was more of a crutch than it was a positive. So I completely eliminated it.”  – via Darren Hartwell @ NBC Sports

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Bobby Manning: “We’re looking at buyout candidates and free agents,” Celtics governor Wyc Grousbeck said on WEEI this week. “I’d be very surprised if we went into the playoffs with an open roster spot. I don’t think that’s going to happen…”

Of course, they may wait until the last day of the regular season to sign Tony Snell to a two-year non-guaranteed deal.

Yeah it's crazy

Yet I constantly hear from certain corners that those Orlando games didn't matter.

Ben Rohrbach: Interesting: When asked, Jayson Tatum calls Ime Udoka “probably my most favorite coach I’ve had,” no slight to anyone else. Says he’s in regular contact with Udoka. Tatum has a great relationship with + great respect for Mazzulla. Relationship with Udoka was just different. – via Twitter brohrbach

I don't think this will bother Joe Mazzulla but doesn't seem like it is something that should be said out loud.

I don’t think it will bother Mazzulla one bit.  I think one reason for the success of the team this year is he’s given the players the space they need to be honest with each other and with the coaches.  This is why he doesn’t mind if Pritchard complains about his opportunity, or if Tatum, Marcus, or whomever still miss Udoka.  Mazzulla would rather Tatum answer that question honestly and be his true self rather than lying and suppressing it.

Many of us do, but that doesn't take anything away from his coaching skills. You don't have to work for the guy to recognize his ability to bring a team to the NBA Finals on his first try.

And Tatum's favorite player was Kobe. How much should we be concerned about his judgment?

Does anyone here think that social media has helped lead us to a culture that regularly makes premature, under-informed judgements about people?  I wouldn’t want to be judged by my worst moments, would you?  I don’t know exactly what Ime did, and I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t like it if I knew, but whatever it was doesn’t tell me all there is to know about him.  Yes, there are some things that people do that you can’t forgive and can’t overlook.  But i can say that I have people in my life who I call friends who have done things that I dislike and don’t respect - yet they remain in my life. I think how they respond to their own foibles and how they lead the rest of their lives matters in terms of overall character.  None of us are perfect, most of us have messed up, and few of us are held to account for our errors in public ways.

Yes. Social media has poisoned our society.

Unfortunately, that's the era that we have to live through. Social media has its pros and cons. You get all your news faster there. But one can also be victimized in some ways and lead folks astray. It's like someone is breaking the news of your life out for you. And if you're a celebrity, even more hits.
