I'm liking Coach Mazzulla so far. He speaks in a direct manner and seems to be a player's coach. He's got his work cut out for him but he seems up to it.

Hopefully he builds on the success we saw last year, but until the season actually starts 'the rules are made up and the points don't matter', as Drew Carey used to say.

"...unceasingly we are bombarded with pseudo-realities manufactured by very sophisticated people using very sophisticated electronic mechanisms. I do not distrust their motives; I distrust their power. They have a lot of it."

He has decent guys to work with , no Lebrons or Irvin’s that can’t take criticism or coaching .

I think this preseason is very important for the coach and the players to get in sync. In the First 10 games of the regular season the C’s have to play the 76ers, Heat, Bulls twice, Cavs Twice, Grizz and the Knicks(who I expect to be better this year). Need to be sharp heading in.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

So far so good for Mazz.  After a loss (maybe tonight?) we'll hear the wheels of doubt turning.

My concern is ....... can Mazulla be tough enough with the players ?

One of the important things Udoka brought to the team was a strong voice that was listened to. He did not hesitate to criticize Brown, Tatum, Marcus, etc. Overall, the players did exhibit more restraint from jacking bad shots and getting out of control with the ball (though it still all went to hell at times, especially in the finals). But the team did appear to listen to and respect the head coach's direction, which was a change from Brad's last few seasons, when the team tuned him out.

Can Coach Joe rein in their tendencies towards bad offensive habits ?
Can he keep up the team's defensive intensity and synchronization ?
He is in a tough situation because a coach has to be himself.
Mazulla can't come in and try to be Ime II if that is not his true personality.

The players do seem to like Coach Joe, but can he be demanding and will they respect him when he is ?

After a preseason loss…Who would stoop that low?  ???

you must be new here.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

We'll only find that out when they hit adversity. That's when Joe Mazz will have to earn his stripes. It's easy to coach a winning team. A losing team, or one where a few players are not playing well and need to be told some hard truths, or where there is a discipline issue that needs to be addressed, is where we will find out if Joe Mazz really has the respect of this team and can do what needs to be done.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

People say this about Ukdoka, but where was this  ability to "reign in their bad habits" in the playoffs. All playoffs was one great game followed by one abysmal game and it caught up to them in the finals.

You are right and I mentioned that fact in my comment.
Plus you had a stagnant, stationary offense that left players with limited options and forced bad decisions like the repeated attempts to dribble-drive out of control into traffic when the shot-clock was winding down.

Liked what I saw from coach Mazz in his debut. Offense looked better, ball moved around and the C’s finished with 24 assists. I’m glad that he’s going with Tatum at the PF, starting White at SG and Al at center, instead of the two big lineup. Horfords minutes were managed well and hopefully that continues so that he has something left in the tank come playoff time. Good use of his challenge… Defense wasn’t great, but I think it will improve once the new guys settle in and obviously Rob being out doesn’t help. Overall, very pleased with the first game.

He went 10 deep today, with Hauser barely seeing the court. We are stacked. I wonder if PP is packaged sometime during the season because it doesn’t seem that he’ll see much floor time, barring any injuries of course.
