Never really liked this type of draft grading. "We didn't draft [good player] when he was available, that makes [GM] a bad drafter!" It's almost always just people using current information to criticize past decisions. Like, no s--- the Celtics would have drafted Giannis had we known he would turn into the best player in the world. Us and every other team. There would have been a dogpile of teams trying to trade into the #1 pick of that draft had that been common knowledge. Unfortunately nobody has a crystal ball.
In Lamar's case, he was considered at the time of the draft to be an elite athlete with some questions about his ability to read defenses, and there's always concern about injuries with running QBs. Fast forward to now... yeah they pretty much got that one right. Good player. Fun to watch. But am I losing sleep over missing him? Nah.
I'm not saying Bill is above criticism, for the record. The Harry pick was questionable even at the time it was made. Many NFL guys believed that there were several better receivers available in that draft than Harry at the time we selected him. So feel free to go after that pick as much as you want... right there with you. But passing on Lamar? Meh.
