I don't find it hard to believe Wyc here and I don't presume that all these great deals were on the table for them to pick from. They didn't use the TPE because there wasn't a smart deal on the table seems more reasonable to me. They didn't want to give up picks just to fill the TPE with a player that isn't that good. And I understand that at some level, money is at least part of the issue but it doesn't mean that it was the issue with the Fournier TPE.
Don't these statements contradict each other, at least in terms of Wyc's "Money is not a consideration whatsoever" statement?
My point was that even if at some level, at some point, money is a factor, that it doesn't mean that it was the factor in whether or not to use the Fournier TPE on a hypothetical trade that may or may not have even been on the table. I don't think there is any other instance where there was even a money choice was there? We are over the cap. The Celtics had the MLE and spent it. They made a trade that added salary and brought in a player making over $20M (just didn't need to use a TPE). The only quibble seems to be the TPEs.
TPE trades are not that easy to pull off. You can only send out draft picks. Money is not necessarily even an issue. I am sure it is part of the equation but I don't see it as there were these deals offered and they passed because of money. I feel the Celtics managed the off season very well so far.
