This makes him turning down the extension look even worse.  He could’ve played it like he just didn’t like the fit with LA, which is why he turned it down

If they don’t trade Westbrook they basically three of the same player. I guess nobody wanted him at all.

Great signing for the Lakers and if they do trade Westbrook it will be a great place for Schroder to be.

I really don't see how they don't just give up the draft picks and move on from Westbrook at this point.

4 possible teams make sense right now

Utah - some combination of Bojan, Clarkson, Conley, Gay for Westbrook and the 1st's

Indiana - Turner, Hield, McConnell/Theis for Westbrook and the 1st's

Charlotte - Hayward, Rozier for Westbrook and 1 1st

San Antonio - McDermott, Richardson, Collins, Langford for Westbrook (no 1st's, pure salary dump from Spurs)
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

So he ends up where he could have been anyway, but with tens of millions down the toilet.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

He and Nerlens might be the two dumbest guys in the league. They must have given back to the owners $100 million combined.

Genuinely painful. Watching generational wealth just disappear! Whoever is advising them is not good

In the case of Nerlens, he sued Rich Paul over the poor advice and representation.  Unfortunately for him, a judge recently sent the case to arbitration.

As a Celtics fan I am thrilled the lakers have added him on to their chemistry experiment. This guy was an actual train wreck on our team. It is not just random we dramatically improved after dumping him. He is a talented player but the fact he is signing a minimum deal three weeks the season starts at his age and skill level tells you all you need to know about how gms view his attitude and chemistry fit. Banking on him taking a backseat to Lebron, Davis, Westbrook and sharing the ball with nunn and Beverly is a pretty good recipe for disaster. For those curious they are not super pleased with this signing on silver screen and roll (though some they would hate it less if they can move nunn or Westbrook before the season).

Schroder’s a good individual player, just not a good team player unless you have a strong team culture already embedded. He excels in isolation offense, which is what we were moving away from.

He was not a good fit alongside the young and isolation prone Tatum and Brown. Schroder’s was the starting PG on their #1 defense in 2020-21, he can give them good minutes.

The Lakers have plenty of talent, but Ham has quite the job cut out for him trying to assign roles and make this into a good team.

The Indiana trade seems the most viable but still unlikely.  If I was LAL, I would do the trade of Westbrook and 2 firsts for Turner and Heild.  The Lakers could line up with:

Schroeder
Hield
James
Davis
Turner

with a decent bench (Beverly, Nunn, Bryant, etc.).  Assuming Davis and James are healthy, that team can contend.  It is probably IND that doesn't want to make the trade.  Sure, they shed some salary but not sure this helps them all that much.  The trade makes LAL enough better to minimize the value of the picks and Westbrook is really of no value to IND.

By signing Schroeder, it does seem to to foretell that maybe they do have something in the works for Westbrook.  Or maybe they think that Schroeder and Westbrook can play together, with Westbrook as more of the SG.
