Would the teams actually take this seriously?

10th overall pick goes to team that wins tournament would be a great reward. 2nd place gets an extra taxpayer level mle tax exemption.

Fans, players and teams would feel it means a lot for the future and not effect the current season.

As long as the tourney doesn't include last year's playoff teams, that's fine. But if the league champs win the tourney and gets the #10 the next year, the rich just get richer. I don't like that.

This will only work if the players care enough about it to compete all out. If they just view it as another series of regular season games and go through their usual maintenance days and/or go through the motions, it will be just a gimmick. The NBA needs to create some real incentive for winning this tournament if they want it to be a success.

No matter how we look at it any reward other than simply bonus pay is going to be giving the winner an advantage.

Which is why in an earlier proposal I said just have the lottery teams from the year before play if the reward is a high draft pick. That way the rich don't get richer because just the "poor" teams are playing for the pick.

If a high draft pick is involved as a reward and the coaches coach and players play like it's a big deal, one of the 8 or so best teams from the previous year are going to win the tourney, most likely. Rewarding them is something I don't want to see if if draft picks are involved.

have a cash award go to the staff (non-executive) workers of the winning team.  It will be more meaningful to them.  The teams with the best culture will be the most motivated to win.

If you don't have good teams playing what is the point of watching if you are the casual fan? I'm sure they want more viewership. If tenth is too high make it pick 15 the exact middle of the first round.

If they count as regular season games, then I think all the teams would take it seriously, especially if the bonus was good enough.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner
