Apparently, Super Bowl XXXVII was also played with no bye week.   Raiders-Bucs.  That game was a big dud.

As best as I can find, there have been seven:

Super Bowl IV – Chiefs 23 – Vikings 7

Super Bowl XVII – Washington 27 – Miami 17

Super Bowl XXV – Giants 20 – Bills 19

Super Bowl XXVIII – Dallas 30 – Buffalo 13

Super Bowl XXXIV – Rams 23 – Titans 16

Super Bowl XXXVI – Patriots 20 – Rams 17

Super Bowl XXXVII Bucs 48 – Raiders 21

So, basically there's no discernible pattern.  There were a couple of the best games of all-time (Giants/Bills, Pats/Rams) and some duds.  That seems consistent with the Super Bowl as a whole.

Most teams have pretty much cancelled their conferences and pressers today. Makes sense.

I do think the decision will be to either play tomorrow night, or push everything back a week (and work out the logistics for the playoffs down the road). There's no chance they play tonight as Hamlin is still in critical condition and it'd be a short turnaround given what's happened the past 12+ hours.

One more thing I'd like to point out, the league was already in hot water about the concussion issues, primarily with Tua (Dolphins QB). Now there's this. I have to imagine that could also factor into what the NFL decides. I'm sure they'd love to resume ASAP and then play everything as normal Week 18, but I'm not as convinced it'll be that easy.

I can't imagine what a logistical nightmare rescheduling the Super Bowl would be.  A lot of people have had hotels and plane tickets booked for months.

Yeah I didn't mean the Super Bowl would be moved, but they definitely can use that bye week for flexibility.

I think one possibility is, they have Bengals-Bills play tomorrow evening, then move the Bengals-Ravens and Bills-Pats Week 18 game to next Monday or Tuesday, and then do them a favor by putting any (or all) those teams on the back-end of wild card weekend (so their games are Sunday or Monday). They kind of did similar during the COVID times with the wacky start days/times, but this is another unprecedented situation. And yes, I know the NCAAF Championship Game is Monday, but they could probably have the four NFL teams play earlier in the day and not cause any drama.

Also, it's 1:20 PM EST now, so I really don't think they'll play it today. Otherwise we would have heard an announcement already I assume. It'll be either tomorrow or later

Sounds like the Week 18 schedule will have no changes, and those games are all on

I think this is the only fair way to do it. If they push back the playoffs, they'll give another bye week that will give an unfair adv to some teams. Yes I know they'll all get it, but that extra week gives hurt players a chance to play a game they wouldn't otherwise get.

I agree, though I think they can make that decision after this weekend.  If they need to push back the playoffs a week, they can and they can put the Bills/Bengals game all alone on Sunday afternoon in what would have been wildcard weekend if they decide they need to play it.  It may just work out that they don't need to play the game i.e. the Patriots beat the Bills, the Bengals beat the Ravens, and the Chiefs win.  The only thing at issue then is the 2 vs. 3 seed between the Bengals and Bills.  They can just let normal tiebreakers decide that (since they'd have played the same amount of games, it actually would work), or just award the higher seed to the Bengals (since they were the home team and winning when the game was postponed) and play the playoffs as normal.

Giving everyone team in AFC a bye except the bills and bengals is not going to happening no matter what. With the news they just canceled for this week it is extremely unlikely it is ever played

I don't think they even need a bye week before the Super Bowl. Two weeks is way too long to wait.

I think they should just give Buffalo a first-round bye in the playoffs but if they face Cincy in the postseason then they travel to Cincy, and Cincinnati get some kind of extended rest or play at the most latest game as possible. Road to the Superbowl still goes through KC.

Eliminate all #7 seeds or incorporate a #8 seed. If the latter, then wild card round be- 3 v 8, 4 v 7, 5 v 6.

We'll see how this unfolds.

Yes, but the NFC would be impacted as well. Hurts gets another week to heal and might be able to come for that last game which has seeding implications.

They aren't pushing back week 18, they just haven't decided to do with the Bills/Bengals game.  Week 18 is going to be played as scheduled so no NFC seeding will be altered in any manner by anything other than the week 18 games this weekend.
