The Lamar drama ensues. https://www.theringer.com/nfl/2023/1/18/23560816/lamar-jackson-ravens-future-speculation

I’m usually not into decoding social media posts, but this leads me to think Lamar is gone. And he’s going to get paid. A lot.

They offered him a quarter billion, $130M+ guaranteed and he turned it down. Lamar is a run first QB and has played a full season once. He should have taken the money, but instead will likely play under the franchise tag. Only way he’s gone is if they trade him.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

That is the bottom line really. Is some team going to guarantee 275 million (or whatever the number is going to be) PLUS trade multiple 1st round draft picks for Lamar?  I just don't see it.  And I can't imagine he is going to sit out and not play on the franchise tag since that is like 1.5 times more money than he has made in his entire career.

I guess the Browns did that with Watson, despite a finding that he was a sexual abuser of multiple victims.  So, there’s always a chance.

Did you think he would sit out a playoff game (one that he could have won)?

The Ravens didn't run out of time.  they failed on a 4th down.  That is why I don't really have issue with the end of game clock management at all.  The time was fine.  Much bigger issue with the play calling throughout and their decision to not give the ball to Dobbins, who is clearly their best offensive player (without Lamar).  Dobbins was a beast in that game and they just didn't give him the carries.  It is inexcusable to have 1st and goal from the 2 and to not give Dobbins the ball on any of the 3 plays you ran.  I get it that you don't expect Huntley to fumble, but he apparently was supposed to go low and not leap, but that happens with a backup QB.  You give the ball to Dobbins and even if he goes high instead of low, he almost certainly doesn't fumble because he is a RB used to that sort of thing.  Whoever was responsible for that 1st and goal sequence and not having Dobbins in the game should absolutely be fired.  I don't know if that is Roman or Harbaugh, but it is inexcusable and unacceptable.
It appears Roman is falling on the sword on this one as he has resigned as OC.  Needed move given how poor some of the offensive playcalling has been and the pure inexcusability to not give the ball a lot more to Dobbins.

Harbaugh said Lamar will be involved in the search for a new offensive coordinator.  Ravens aren't acting like a divorce is imminent.

Baltimore is going to place the franchise tag on him, why wouldn't they?  My understanding is that there is a window to negotiate after the tag is applied.  It is hardball but they should make clear they intend to apply the tag.  Then actually do it if they need to.  They can say this is our best and final contract offer, take it or we tag you.

At that point, Jackson can sit out or pick one of the contract options.

Is Kyler Murray better than Lamar?

Because Murray got 5/230M (190M guaranteed). Key there is 190M guaranteed.

Regardless how you feel about him, I think you can understand why he probably didn't take the 130M guaranteed, if it was 200M guaranteed I think he'd take it. He also probably doesn't want to risk serious injury before signing a long term deal.

It's going to be tough for Baltimore. Yeah, they'll tag him, but then how committed will Lamar really be? Will he risk playing in the big games late in the season if he gets dinged up during the season? Then BAL is back to starting Huntley for games. And make no mistake, when Lamar hits FA there'll definitely be teams interested in him especially those QB-needy ones.

Firing Greg Roman is a step. I think he was actually a major problem for BAL and players seemingly didn't like him either.

Lamar allegedly only ever countered with a full guarantee though.  Why would Baltimore increase their guarantee offer if Baltimore wasn't going to guarantee the whole thing?  Had Lamar come back with something other than a full guarantee, Baltimore would have increased their guarantee, they just weren't going to bid against themselves (and it probably would have been a done deal as I'm sure Baltimore would have gone more than 130 guaranteed).  This is what happens when you don't have an agent though.  You end up in weird negotiating positions and you can take things more personally than they need to be.

Harbaugh said Lamar will be involved in the search for a new offensive coordinator.  Ravens aren't acting like a divorce is imminent.

Well obviously they aren’t going to treat him poorly. They are trying to make him happy. Whether this actually makes the disgruntled Lamar happy remains to be seen. There are a lot of issues in Baltimore now. I would be curious if there are some players that feel he let them down by not playing in the playoff game.

The only quotes I've seen from Baltimore players about Lamar were something to the effect of "if you saw him limping around the locker room like we have, you'd have known for awhile he wasn't going to play."

Lamar should go to the Jets. They have a good young coach in Saleh, good young receivers, a good defense, and a promising (yet hurt) running back. Tons of marketing opportunities and they will pay him what he wants.
