Just wondering if the cavs would have offered that package for Durant,  and don't you think the Cavs would have a better chance of winning big for the next 3 years with KD over Mitchell?

We know Mitchell is much younger,  but he's 6'1" no shoes. This reminds me of CJ and Dame backcourt.

Allen
Mobley
Durant
Levert
Garland

Presuming that KD would actually show up and play for the Cavs, (or that Brooklyn had any intention of trading him at all) he’d be a better choice - but I don’t think you can safely make either assumption. Also, KD is a ‘win now’ choice and Mitchell gives them more time and more flexibility to contend in, say, three years.

For what it’s worth, the Cavs couldn’t offer that deal for Durant, because the Nets would be over the hard cap line, and Collin Sexton in a sign-and-trade would subject them to the hard cap.

Durant > Mitchell
Brown > Mitchell

Brown vs. Durant...super up for debate, especially if not in a vacuum and on paper (Durant's weird off court issues)

Durant is better than Mitchell, but the Cavs are young and it wouldn’t make sense to do that trade for a 34-yr old Durant.  The Cavs won’t be true contenders until Mobley reaches his prime.  Mitchell fits that timeline much better.

That being said, I find it hard to believe that small a backcourt could win a title.  Even Isiah and Dumars weren’t that small, and at least Dumars was a great defender.

Durant is better choice to win but Cavs may not be ready just yet. Garland and Mobley need at least one more year along with added playoff experience.

Durant is much better than Mitchell, but that package wouldn't have landed Durant so it is a moot point.

I think a closer debate would be Dejounte Murray or Mitchell. A two way player vs a one way player.

As much as I dislike Durant, I don't think this question is even debatable. Durant, hands-down, is a much more impactful player.

who knows how long.  I argued with people on here when Irving was here about how I thought Lebron would be better than Irving for the life of Irving's next contract and here we are in Irving's last year and Lebron is absolutely still better.  At some point Mitchell will over take Durant, but that may not be during the life of their respective contracts either.

Lebron will be able to impact winning a basketball game more than Irving for the rest of their lives.  I'd probably choose Lebron at 70 years old over Irving at 60.  I'm not certain I wouldn't prefer Mitchell over Durant in a year or two, depending on Durant's health and attitude.
