Anyone thinking that's easy.....you aren't in the water very often. He must have been carrying 2-20lb weights? Maybe less but 20lb looked about the right size.

That's awesome and really smart, too. Much lower impact on the knees working out in the pool.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Great. This will help him play basketball better underwater. That’s about it.

You seriously can't think of how such exercise might help his cardiovascular system? Really?

If he follows the pattern of every off-season since he came into the league, he is likely pushing his body to extremes to be in the best shape he can be, while also adding new skills to his game on the court.

Like the offseason he worked out and practiced while fasting, and came back noticeably quicker and with better handles.

While it is undoubtedly cool, what is he doing to improve is handle, so he stops turning the ball over during pivotal drives? Is he also going to get his FT conversion rate above 80% and ideally close to 85% in the future? Those are two things that could move him from being really good to a potential starting all-star or all-NBAer.

I’m going to wager he’s working on his basketball skills and not just fitness/cardio during the off-season.

I think some people feel NBA basketball stars can't work on more than one thing over a summer. A vid goes out of some amazing water based training and because there isn't a vid of JB also shooting free throws and dribbling a ball, suddenly it has to be questioned how Jaylen is training and what he's working on. It's quite comical.

Kinda like he is unable of working on lots of different stuff in his game and with his body at the same time for weeks on end over the summer. Does anyone really need video proof of Jaylen working on everything in order to believe he is actually doing it?

Just that the point being Jaylen doesn't need improvement in cardiovascular endurance or leg strength and jumping ability. He has those down pat. I'm not hung up on him improving "his handle" either. Looks to me like he handles the ball well. But even Globe-Trotter Curly Neal couldn't dribble through three defenders at once the way Brown attempts to do repeatedly.

It is Jaylen's decision making that is the problem, as well as Tatum and Smart. If those three guys could significantly improve their court awareness, getting rid of the ball early and not panicking in close games, it would go a long way towards improving this team.

Personally, I think they would also benefit greatly from a more creative offense with more variety and more off-ball player movement. As is, we grind down into stagnant half-court sets that only become more difficult to execute as a playoff series is extended.

How can you possibly know that about Brown's fitness? This is a low-stress way of maintaining cardio after a long, gruelling season - this is much more preferable to putting any stress on his joints.

He's also capable of working on multiple things in one offseason

I was addressing the principle of specificity in athletic training. I doubt swimming underwater will be of much use for him on the basketball court.  Will it improve his endurance during games?  I doubt it.

My random guess:  Jaylen's trainer is more attuned to his needs than Elizabeth Quinn of verywellfit.com.

But, even that article makes clear:

If you focus only on drills and skills specific to your sport, you may end up unbalanced. This may inhibit your athletic ability and performance in the long run.

Keep in mind, however, that developing great athletic skills should not be too focused and should include elements that work on your overall fitness.
