One heckuva deal for Gobert:

2022 No. 22 pick Walker Kessler
2023 MIN 1st (unprotected)
2025 MIN 1st (unprotected)
2027 MIN 1st (unprotected)
2029 MIN 1st (top 5 protected)
Patrick Beverley *
Malik Beasley *
Filler

* Soon to be flipped for another pick, would imagine

That’s far more than I thought anybody could ever possibly get for Gobert. Have to tip my hat to Trader Danny on a job well done (but that deal is not as good as putting the Pacers’ front officer under a Jedi mind trick and handing over Brogdon for the 30th overall pick in 2023 ;)

Big props to Danny for this one. There are some teams (Heat. Celtics, Lakers, Spurs) where I would be wary of far future picks due to team stability, but someone like the Wolves I would bet on failing apart at some point in the next 5 years or so
I'm bitter.

He also got a pick swap (2026).

Definitely trumps the Brogdon deal.

I don't know that I'd include the Lakers on the list.  They were bad last season and were terrible the 5 seasons before Lebron go there.  Lebron might leave after this season and AD can't carry a team even if he stays healthy.

I don’t know about definitely. It’s definitely the best move possible for a rebuilding Jazz (hopefully they don’t fall for believing you can build around Mitchell). Getting a borderline all-star who’s 29 on a 3 year deal for the 30th overall pick in 2023 (and it being the 30th overall pick because of the deal), a burnt out Theis and a draft bust Nesmith is a pretty darn good deal if it pans out like I think it will. Both are AAA trades for the separate situations the two teams are in.

How is Minny able to trade 4 first rounders? I thought the limit was 3 of one's own picks. Am i missing something?

You can go 7 years in the future but not trade successive picks so the limit would be 4.

Yeah imagine if the Jazz got equivalents to Tatum, Brown, Smart, Rob Williams, Grant Williams, and Peyton Pritchard with those picks to surround Donovan Mitchell? They’d be in so much trouble 🙄

Different deals. DA gave up the best player but for a monster haul. Brad got the best player but gave up essentially nothing. Both great deals.
2023 Non-Active, Non-NBA 75 Historical Draft, SAB Bulls:

PG: Deron Williams 08 / John Wall 17
SG: David Thompson 78 (HOF) / Hersey Hawkins 91
SF: TMac 03 (HOF) / M.R. Richardson 81 / Tayshaun 07
PF: Larry Nance Sr 92 / Blake Griffin 14
C: Lanier 77 (HOF) / Brad Daugherty 91 / Camby 07

Imagine if the Jazz got equivalents to Fab Melo, James Young, Dancing French 🐻 (my all-time favorite LOL when people ignore Danny’s draft misses), RJ Hunter, Ante Žižić, Romeo Langford and Aaron Nesmith.

That’s a lot of 💩 relative to the one great non-lottery pick of Timelord, and three good non-lottery picks of Batman, Rozier and AB (still TBD on late 20s pick of Pritchard, but I’ll give him a nod for the feisty fella—and Sully was not such a bad pick at his slot).

The good news is that Danny did great with his three top ten picks he kept: JT (3), JB (3) and Smart (6).

Combine Trader Danny’s trading with the drafting skills of RC Buford and the social skills of Pat Riley, and you’ll have the best GM of all-time. Stevens has 1 and 3 downpat. TBD on drafting.

Danny’s asset collection, negotiation ability, and drafting is elite. He got about 1-2 draft assets above Gobert’s market value.

DA had the third best drafting track record according to one of The Ringer’s draft analysis of the past 10-15 years. It took into account draft position, expected value and actual value, which makes him an elite drafter as well. Mentioning his misses is like Skip Bayless talking about the 2016 Finals to justify his Steph Curry discrediting.

One of Danny’s strengths is also a drawback in certain situations. He’ll let a player walk (or not pull the trigger on a trade) if the price is not to his liking even if it isn’t the best move for the team.

DA making the trade to acquire the assets, keeping the assets (instead of trading them to build around Rondo), drafting most of the roster, and allowing them the time to develop instead of trading them for a rental far outweighs his weaknesses though. Combined with Brad’s team building skill has now made this team the favorite to win the NBA Championship and have a sustained run as a contender.

Romeo and Nesmith say otherwise about his drafting ability.  Add to this Troy Bell, Gabe Pruitt, JR Giddens, Fab Melo, James Young, RJ Hunter,  Yabusele,  and trading Desmond Bane.....
