"The 6-foot-10 forward is considered to be a potential second-round pick this year after a strong season with the Boilermakers. He was also among the standouts at the draft combine, recording 14 points, 13 rebounds and five assists in one scrimmage game."

Just looked at Williams’ combine testing, and he was dead last in agility and the shuttle run.  He’s going to get clobbered defensively — his best chance at a career is to improve his shooting, and he’s shown almost no scoring ability away from the paint.

The passing is terrific, and the inside game and rebounding are very strong, but in the modern NBA where creating and defending space is at a premium, he fails at both ends.  He needs to be able to affect spacing for at least one end of the court, and I don’t think he’ll ever be able to do that on defense.

"In reality, there’s a lot more here. Williams is still only 21, and stands 6-foot-10 with a 7-foot-3 wingspan. In an interview with The Athletic last year, he admitted, “Personally, I think my weight has always held me back. The skills have always been there, but I’ve had weight problems.”

It’s been a long road, but Williams has gradually gone from 325 pounds as a freshman to his current weight of 265."

Wow that’s big drop,  that 265 ish is about right .  question is can he control it ……or balloon like like other Celtics of the past.n

He maybe too slow for NBA

He may well be. He can still get into much better shape.

Awesome. He was higher on my board than Davidson

What’s your scouting report on him? From what little I’ve seen of Trevion, his passing looked impressive, especially for a big man. Some crafty moves in the paint, too. Im intrigued.
His passing is the obvious thing that sticks out when you watch him. He whips crazy cross-court passes with relative ease, has very good awareness of where his teammates are, and seems to genuinely enjoy passing. A bit turnover prone, but the vision is definitely there.

He's a strong interior presence on both ends. He's lost a lot of weight over his college career (as someone else posted) but he's still a long 6'10 and weighs over 260lbs. Not a huge shot-blocker, but his length and strength allows him to be disruptive. He also generates quite a few steals. Impressive low-post scorer with a nice touch inside. He's not super athletic, but if he lost another 10lbs I reckon he could be adequate, as he should be a bit more nimble.

He's not a shooter. That's a problem. 53% from the FT line and 9/29 from deep over his college career. He's older (yet still only 21), and his motor can be inconsistent, which I reckon would stem from his size.

Best case scenario is a Kevon Looney type big. Rebounding, decent defence, good passing (only limited by turnovers in Williams' case) and screening.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)

C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

After watching Jokic trying to guard the pick-and-roll the first few years of his career, and then seeing where he is at now, I almost never think a big man is beyond development.

I fully agree. NBA game shape would also do a lot for his quickness. He's never going to be quick but he could definitely get quicker.

Good upside comparison with Looney. TP

If he could get down to 245-250 it would help his D a lot, quicker on his feet. Under Al he could become a great steel, but he's gotta put the work in.

Can he score? I love his passing but if he isn’t a scoring threat, teams are going to sag off him. Even Rondo, who loved to get the assist, needed to have some threat to score.

That was my concern watching his highlights as well.

The other night Big 10 Network replayed Purdue's early season win vs UNC. Offensively, he was terrific.
When he was on the court, the offense ran through him. UNC was playing him for the pass, and there was little Purdue movement off the ball, so he did his thing in the low post and had an excellent game scoring. Without looking it up, I think he finished with 18 or 19 points.

His footwork was very good, his hands were very good. And he did OK from the FT line.  That all said, you can see the limitations. Defensively he's going to have a problem. But I bet he plays really well during the summer league and many here will be calling for him to replace Theis.

I see him as a great summer league signing who won't make the team if brought to camp.

We could use a situational center that can body up Embiid and Lopez.

Trevion is a Wendell Carter Jr. sized big. Even if he’s too slow for defense outside of the paint, we still need someone that can keep the really big centers from playing bully ball down low. It looks like he has enough rebounding and low post skill to make them work at the other end. If  he can hold his position and keep them away from the basket he could have a role, even if it’s a limited one.

Not impressed with him but be good on Maine roster
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin
