Durant demands a trade, and Boston absolutely HAS to give up Jaylen in the trade to do it and get KD. Would you give up Jaylen to acquire Durant?

I'm aware there are other non-Jaylen ways to acquire KD, and there might be additional pieces moving even if Jaylen's already in the package.

But basically the question is asking would you trade Jaylen this offseason if it meant you're definitely acquiring Durant. As in, that's the ultimatum, Brooklyn will only accept a package that includes Jaylen and you HAVE to include him.

Absolutely. Tatum & Durant are a killer combination. They were immense together for Team USA. It would be insane to have them together on the Celtics.

Tough call to make. But you shorten your window immensely with that trade.  Durant will be 34 years old when next season starts, and he's already had injury issues.  I voted no.

Even if you think he doubles your chances of winning a title for the next two years (which is generous IMO), then as long as you keep Brown and Tatum together for more than 4 years, it's better passing on the deal.

That's like a one maybe two year window. What has KD done without Golden State? We have like a 8-10 year window now. You'd want to add Durant to Tatum and Brown.

I said no.

I think if we win in the next 2-3 years with Brown/Tatum they'll stick together long term. I think if we don't Tatum walks for LA..
I think if we get Durant, Tatum is gone no matter what at the end of his contract. He isn't going to stick around to play with a 37 year old Durant.

So I guess there is a gamble that we lose Tatum no matter what with my theory. That said I'd take the long term probability and the chance we can win in the near term with our current core.

If I was able to choose my preference since the topics are in parallel right now i'd take Murray/Brown/Tatum over Smart/KD/Tatum.

this.

question is essentially do you make a deal that probably (not definitely) increases your chances at a title for 1 or 2 years or take what you know has a chance at a title and build on to that.

personally, I want to continually be in the hunt for a title, not just a small window.  add to that, Durant, for all his talent, got swept in the first round this year and didn't look particularly stellar in that effort.  he had a decent supporting cast and still got swept so his ability to increase our chances of winning it all are somewhat suspect or at least overestimated.

How many high level years do folks believe Durant has ahead of him?

I think his game will age well. Super-skilled finesse based game with low physicality which reduces injury risk. Not overly reliant on speed. He could have another 5 years ahead of him.

In Jaylen you have a top level young player who wants to be here. I wouldn't be so eager to give that up. Durant's game is also closer to Tatum's. And for the same reasons I wouldn't give him up either.

Murray + Tatum + Durant is an interesting mix.

Gives Tatum a young co-star to play alongside long term as Durant declines. Kinda like Magic Johnson had Worthy as Kareem declined.

It does but it also guts our team to make happen so probably not realistic. It's going to take a lot more than just Brown to get Durant in itself to match cap space.

I will drive Brown to the airport myself to pair Tatum with Durant.

Do you think you get Durant back from the airport before he bails on the Celtics?

There are only a handful of guys I would trade Jaylen for.

Doncic
Embiid
Giannis

And, yes, Durant.

Durant is younger than Curry, who was magnificent in these playoffs. And Curry, due to skill, will probably be great for another 3 years.

Durant's skill set is off the chart. His game will age well.  Being able to do what he does for 3 or 4 years isn't something I am worried about. Especially when surrounded by the cast of players here who will make up for him on the defensive end.

And no one is going to beat a Jaylen Brown package for Durant.
