Kemba seemed like a decent teammate and nice guy but he is a defensive sieve and cannot switch in the current defensive scheme.  he was never an elite or really good ball handler either (though better than who we currently have) so he wouldn't help much in that regard either

Depends on the cost. For the vet min sure. But his role would be greatly diminished, especially if Ime wants to keep developing PP. He would be a good voice in the locker room though if he wanted to take on a Udonis Haslem role and maybe mentor PP and JD.

He only played 37 games last season.  43 the season before.  We need to be able to count on more than a half season or less from a principal bench player.  And if he is not getting regular minutes, can we really expect him to be able to come in and hit shots if he plays once a week or whatever?

I don't know the state of his knees but I am assuming they aren't any better than the last couple of seasons, and probably a little worse at best.  If that assumption is not accurate, and there is some reason to believe that he could hold up to say 18 min for 60-70 games, then sure.  There could be a role for him on a vet min contract.

Unless he’s a better defender with healthy knees…no

I'd bring Kemba back as an assistant coach to work with Davison, Pritchard, and Yam.

Pritchard is better than Kemba at this point. Enough said.

If the C's wanted Kemba back they could have traded for him and gotten a lottery pick.  Isn't that what the NYK gave up yesterday to move him?

And take on his salary? No thanks

Give me Kemba for the minimum! This dude can still win you a playoff game. There’s a huge difference between him being your starting PG and him being your 8th man lol

The biggest obstacle will be if his ego can take coming off the bench

yeah i think the defense would be the concern

and would he be ok as deep bench

but i think he'd have to be ok w deep benach if we wants to stay in the league at this point, right?

i think more savvy vets at the end of the bench this year would be good for the team.

but i guess we'll see :)

If he wants to be an 8th or 9th man on our team, sure I'd be down.

Unlike IT, I don't think Kemba has an ego. He admitted one of this issues with the Cs was he deferred to the Jays too much because he didn't want to stand in the way of their development. He was being brought off the bench by NY, and they weren't a playoff team this year. The issue to me is cost. At vet min I don't care what his knees are like, he can be a veteran voice in the locker room, and someone to mentor PP and the other young guards. But anything more than that I don't think it would be worth it, given we will be a taxpaying team.

I really like PP seems like a hard worker- I enjoying him getting 6 rebounds in 8 mins. I feel PP needs a bigger role next season. I thought about Kemba back on the team makes no sense when you think about having PP.

Kind of, the Knicks did give up their first this season (#11) but got back:

2023 first round pick from OKC via Detroit (protected 1-18 until 2024, protected 1-13 in 2025, protected 1-11 in 2026, protected 1-9 in 2027)
2023 first round pick from OKC via Washington (protected 1-14 in 2023, protected 1-12 in 2024, protected 1-10 in 2025, protected 1-8 in 2026)
2025 first-round pick from DET via Milwaukee (protected 1-4)
$18 million in cap space

This was not a case of the pick being only to dump Kemba, they got 3 future firsts back in the deal.
