I'm rather conservative as it is but I don't think I would want to shake up this team very much going into next year.  If we could use the MLE and maybe a tpe to grab depth in the form of a true PG (who would replace the Pritchard off the bench) and some shooting with size (as DA likes to say), I think I'm good going into next year.

But more than anything, I don't want to change the spirit of what got this team to the finals.  It wasn't star power, which we know let us down in the end.  It was the defensive identity that made this team what it was.  So I wouldn't want a big trade that could backfire on the team.  I think White will be better next year after he gets comfortable.  I think Theis is fine in his role and will play a sizeable role in the regular season spelling Al and Rob. I mean, we might be able to find a upgrade but I'd rather invest it elsewhere.

Whatever it takes to improve the offense. They can't run it back as is and expect to get there again. Defense is great to have, but if you can't score, then it's useless.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

There's significant internal growth that can still happen. Brown, Tatum, both Williams, Nesmith, and Pritchard are are not done becoming the players they will be. Fringe NBA players like Fitts, Hauser, Thomas, and Ryan may all develop into role players as well (good organizations should expect 1-2 of these every few years). I'd even argue that White might continue to develop as a player as well. I think Smart is mostly who he is (obviously Horford too).

I'm not sure the mindset should be to shake things up. If there is a high-level playoff rotation player that can make the team better, the Cs will consider it just like any team.

The other thought is whether or not the Cs believe Horford can play at the same level for another year. If not, then the time to sell him high to a team that has playoff aspirations is now.

I honestly think they can do this by adjusting their offensive scheme.  If they're gonna keep the same offensive sets, then at least design plays/wrinkles that are specific to JT and JB that take advantage of their strengths instead of relying on ISO dribble penetration.

At it's worst (which was 75% of the Finals) it seemed whenever we ran our offense, JT/JB went into ISO mode which, as we saw, is not their strengths.

However, I do believe they need to add some offensive punch in free agency.

On a side note....on Bill Simmons' latest pod, he had an idea of GW and filler for Huerta from ATL.  Don't know if ATL would do it, but I would.

I think the Celtics need to add a couple of pieces.  They are pretty close to getting over the top but they badly need to improve their ball handling and team IQ or more implosions like Golden State are just waiting to happen.

Brad is going to have a heck of a time making ANY trades.  Other teams is esp EC teams know the C's are real close.  Why would they make a deal to put them over the top?

In any case, I don't think Wyc will be willing to shake things up that hurts the salary structure.  He knows they are close.  Is it the right time to go into LT territory?  Not sure.

Think keeping the status quo is the wrong mindset. You have to figure it hat Philly/Miami/Bucks/Nets come back healthy and/or make additions. Cs need to be aggressive and make impact moves. This team need another bonafide scorer. And they need to figure out what to do with Horford who is 36 and on the last year of his deal. His contract represents their best chance of adding a star caliber player.

Before last deadline he proposed Smart and Rob for Sabonis. He really is just dumb when it comes to those proposals.

Not very much. I don't think it needs to be blown up. Just a few tweaks. I think our starting lineup is fine. They just need to make better reads and protect the ball better. It's more a BBIQ thing. I think they have the ability to learn to use their judgment better. Their spacing wasn't good and that's something that Ime needs to focus on.

We need to upgrade our bench though. If Ime doesn't trust the likes of Nesmith, Theis, etc. then get rid of them and get people that he trusts. Gwill is solid but his habit of complaining to referees, something he probably picked up from Tatum, needs to be nipped in the bud. PP is good as a shooter off the bench but doesn't offer much if he is missing, and White in his form prior to the last 3 games was solid, but his perimeter shooting is very ordinary. We need another two-way swing wing, preferably a vet who can be a wise head in the dressing room, and another swing big to replace Theis if Ime doesn't trust him. That's really it.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

I'd take a conservative approach of spending the MLE for a good bench piece & filling out the end of the bench with better minimum contract players.

I would only break from that approach if there was a very good opportunity available. The most likely of which would be trading Horford & pieces for a younger long term piece either at PF or at SG with the team going smaller with the Jays at forward.

ZERO!

I've been saying this team has a chance to be the next GSW with JB and JT at the helm.  I still believe that, unfortunately, we need the same thing we've needed for a few years now, shooting off the bench!

Keep the core, but add significantly to it.

Theis + Nesmith + Pritchard brings back around $18.5 salary in trade

A 9+ million TPE

A $17.1 million TPE

The TMLE

We have a significant opportunity to add to this team.

But none of those contracts is an asset, IMO. Certainly not an asset of any significance.

Depends on who is available and at what price.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Pritchard definitely is an asset as a rotation player on a small rookie contract.

Nesmith is a prospect asset.
