Stranger Things series finale. What a mess.
I really liked it. I seemingly liked the last season more than many viewers. I guess I expected Will to play a larger role in the finale after the sorcerer buildup, but overall it satisfied me and wrapped things up well enough.
My issue with it wasnt really the finale itself but the mediocrity of the season leading up to it. I completely lost interest in the show after how bad the first batch of episodes they dropped back in November were. But after watching 5 seasons of the show, there was still a part of me that still felt invested enough that I wanted to see how it ended. I passively watched the rest while scrolling on my phone and occasionally looking up - I know, Im Netflix?s dream customer lol. But I did really feel that was the amount of my attention the show deserved at that point.
What really bugs me about the show is how emotional it was. Characters are constantly crying, which lessens the emotional impact when something sad actually happens. Also, the stakes are always so high and the characters are always in peril, making the big moments feel unearned. The writers really just needed to let it breathe a lot more.
Overall, the show had its moments - mostly season 1 and 2, but is nowhere close to being an all-time great alongside shows like Breaking Bad, LOST, The Sopranos, etc.
