Brown's too sensitive, which worries me because he won't be able to sign a true max extension the year before his contract is up.

Not that I definitely think he has one foot out the door, but Horford, Kyrie, and Hayward have me a little frazzled on losing talent for nothing. Wait, I guess we at least got a TPE out of Hayward leaving.

Brown has a very realistic shot at All-NBA next year if he stays healthy, in which case the Celtics would be able to offer him a (super)max in the summer of 2023 (which the Celtics should do given the impending cap spike in 2025).

I'm willing to bet over half the active posters on this site (present company included) proposed or approved or conditioned/approved at least one trade in the past year involving Jaylen Brown.  It was less about not liking him (I always have, starting with when he was drafted, thought Brad under-played him as a rookie), it's just that he was such an obvious trade chip when things were bad. Wasn't just Greenly.

Realistic is probably stretching it - which is why I failed to mention it in my post - but I guess there is a chance. I think we would need to be a solid 1-seed from start to finish next season for it to happen. I definitely think he'll be a deserving All-Star, though.

I never actively wanted to trade him, and am pretty sure I was never into any trade focused on rebuilding or lottery picks. There were probably some change of scenery trades I would have looked at a lot longer back than I would now. Can’t really remembers any specifics.

About the trades?  Yes, the quoted part is real.  Marcus also quipped about the fans.  But they also recognized their poor play at the start of the year.

About Greenly?  Not so much, lol.

Folks may always give me a hard time for advocating for trading JB, but we were awful in December 2021, and we had over half a decade of JB at that point. Something clearly had to change for us to become contenders, and obviously it was too early to give up on our coach (shame on those who wanted Udoka gone in less than five months yet they criticize me for wanting to dump JB after five years when we were staring at another .500 first-round exit). Something had to change and the best trade piece made sense at the time (and if we cannot win the title this year, it may yet make sense to make such a move to try to get us over the top…).

I was right that something had to change, which fortunately came in January 2021 when the players started executing like Udoka and Co. had probably been asking for weeks. Fortunately, I was wrong about JB needing to be traded to get us anywhere in the playoffs. That does not change the fact I was right about ownership choosing Stevens over Ainge, nor does it change the fact I was the first on here to propose trading Kemba for Horford, and I was perhaps the first who advocated for trading for Theis at the deadline. I took ridicule for those trade ideas long before they happened, but we are not in the NBA Finals without those exceptional trades by Stevens, including the trade for D-White, of which I continue to be a huge supporter even when his shooting slumps (everything else is exactly what we need in a 6th man). I was also right to stand behind Udoka through the entire first half of the year, and I was right that D-White’s shooting would regress to the mean in the Heat series, which it did.

Yes, I was wrong about needing to trade JB, but I’m not always wrong…a broken clock is right twice a day, ya know? Can’t you see that above? 😉 🤣

Well the main guy you normally want us to trade for is Leonard, who has been injured come playoff time in 3 out of those 5 years.

I'd go with Brown.

You don't make franchise altering decisions based on how good or bad the team is at a single point in time. IMO, you always should be looking at the next 5 years, unless you have an old roster and the window is closing. I'm never going all in for short-term shot at a title at the expense of a franchise player like Tatum. Plus, winning a ring with guys you've had since they were rookies is so much more meaningful than a rent-a-team.

As long as we have JT & JB, our window is open, hopefully for the next 8-10 years.

Honestly, I think Boston's mentality this summer should be thinking like Middleton didn't get hurt and Boston lost to Milwaukee in the ECS.  I think that is the more realistic view of the team and as such the summer should be planned like that.  And that thought shouldn't change no matter the outcome of the last 2 games of this series. 

This board has a big time habit of overreacting to the moment and not really accounting for injuries.  We saw that a lot in 2012 where a lot of this board was thinking that Boston was still a true contender because they pushed Miami to 7 in the ECF.  But Bosh didn't play until game 5 and once he was back and reasonably healthy, Miami went back to crushing the C's.  That was also the year Rose blew out his knee against the Sixers in the 1st round and Boston ended up playing the 8th seeded Sixers in the 2nd round (who took Boston to 7 games). 

I just don't want to see Boston treat this summer like it is really close and do all sorts of short term moves.  Boston needs to still find a legit 3rd piece or just better fitting pieces in general, especially as Horford ages and Rob still can't stay healthy.

I agree.  Even if we win a title, the other teams in the East are going to be better next year.  Milwaukee will have Middleton back.  Brooklyn, Philly or Miami all have some flexibility to improve.  We need to add significant improvements to the team, and we have the financial flexibility to do it.  Wyc needs to authorize Brad to use all of our trade exceptions as well as the MLE to add talent.
