Boston should absolutely win the title at this point.  Anything less is a bad result and it isn't an overreaction to say it.  It won't mean the sky is falling or anything, but Boston needs to win the title this year.

Nah. They don't need to do anything. You want them to win. Let's not get the two confused.
I want them to win every year, but this is a year they need to win.  The door has never been more open, they have to capitalize as there may not be another chance as good as this one.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Bigs - Shaquille O'Neal
Wings -  Lebron James
Guards - Luka Doncic

I remember LarBrd33 saying something similar about the bubble Celtics on Reddit (or someone on here saying something), the year they lost to the Heat I think, and then talking about how bleak the future is.

I’m gonna respectfully disagree. This is the beginning of a long run of chances to get a ring… or two. Barring serious injuries were setup for the future. Next year veteran players will themselves build us a solid bench and a chance for them to get a shot at a ring.
It’s all about ownership believing the time has come and opening the purse a bit more.

The key to the take is "may" - they may not have another chance.  It's true of course that the sky could fall next year and each thereafter.  In that sense any year that you've got a decent shot can't be wasted.  So yeah -- hope they take advantage of this opportunity.  But some folks might contend that this is the beginning and not the end of their "window".

It’s impossible to predict: who could have seen the 2012 OKC thunder turning out the way they did, or that the C’s would turn out to be constant ECF participants after Hayward’s injury?

Only thing to do is cheer for a championship every season. :)

Who knows.  Maybe the Nets actually figure it out.  Maybe the Bucks have full health and are just in our way for the next 5 years.  Not to mention the teams out west or some other team comes out of nowhere.  There is absolutely no way to know.  Sure we'd all like to think this is the beginning of the window given how young Tatum and Brown still are and that as a result Boston will be a realistic contender for the next 5 years or more, but you just don't know what will happen, which is why you need to capitalize on the opportunities.

I want the Celtics to win too.

Don't you think that the rest of the league should be thinking that they need to win ASAP, as the Celtics are going to be around for a while? I'm not sure there's a team in the NBA that has a better outlook than the Celtics.

Ime had plenty of chances during a 20 point run to sort it out - did fk all and made Butler be Celtics daddy yet again as per usual last couple years - ah well - need to somehow win at least 1 in TD coz hard to get game 2/3 with no horford/smart

It's fine.  The Celtics are going to watch the film and see all the simple things they can clean up for the next game.  We didn't play well at all - even in the first half there were many things we could have done better.

Celtics will win this series.  It will only be questionable if our key starters continue to miss games.

Win or lose, I want us to run this team back next year including Al at $$$ and two additions: Nesmith/picks for Dort, and use the MLE on a 5/4 since Timelord is hurt a lot and Al is closer to 40 than 30.

The only exception to bringing everyone (sans Nesmith) back: If we lose and Kawhi is available for Brown/Theis/picks, that’s a no-brainer, particularly if we can use the MLE on a 5/4 and still bring in Dort for picks. Only if we lose, though. I think Smart/JB practically make us a 2020s-era Big 3 if we win the title.

The above moves ensure we get by anybody next year, including a Giannis/Middleton/Holiday Bucks. Even if we win the title, we need 1-2 guys added to the bench strength to ensure we can get by a healthy Bucks squad next year. Unless Nesmith pulls a Batman,  think moving him/picks for Dort and a MLE is the way to go.

Nesmith showed enough tonight that I no longer want to deal him. I still want Dort for a TPE/picks instead, but Nesmith may yet surprise us just like Grant and Payton.

It seems like the year we can take over for Golden State, who I think will be in the Finals. It could be like when the remnants of the Showtime Lakers had their final appearance in the Finals and lost to the Bulls. It can be the start of our dynasty. A true inflection point in NBA history.
